Who Do? Voodoo

The first disc of Season six ("Random Rhapsody") debuts a new English
voice for Nabiki (Elaina Costain), but I sure couldn't tell the difference.
The first episode ("Dear Daddy, Love Kodachi) was okay, it's about
the reunion of Kodachi and her father. The episode goes on to go a
bit deeper into the bitterness between Tatewaki, holds for his father,
who further angers him by taking the Kuno estate back. A duel ensues,
and for once, Ranma is not involved. Tatewaki Kuno is actually made
out to be the sympathetic figure in the episode, a rarity to say the
least.
The Gosunkugi episode ("Enter Gosunkugi, the New Rival") is easily
one of my favorites. I thought it was really funny. It debuts Gosunkugi,
the diminutive, unpopular witch-doctor who has his eye on (surprise)
Akane. But don't fool yourself, he's hardly a dangerous foe, more
of a comedy relief, much like Kuno.
The third episode, "Ranma's Calligraphy Challenge," just as easily
moves into my top ten WORST episodes ever. Ranma gets challenged by
a guy with a giant ink brush (Sotatsu), who challenges Ranma to a
match of "Martial Arts Calligraphy" Now I can see Martial Arts Okonomiyaki,
or even Martial Arts Tea, but Martial Arts HANDWRITING, where
you fight with giant ink brushes? This is one UGLY episode.
Still, the Gosunkugi episode makes this DVD all worthwhile.
Where "Who Do? Voodoo" ranks in season six:
1. The Demon from Jusenkyo
2. Wacky Winter Wonderland
3. For the Love of Akane
4. Ukyo's Secret Sauce
5. Pandamonium
6. Who Do? Voodoo
7. Watermelon Beach
8. The Way We're Not
