Ranma ½
Random Rhapsody:
The Way We're Not

The first episode, "The Secret Don of Furinkan High," is easily the
best. Ranma discovers a second school store (It took him THIS
long?), and finds an unusual man (Toramasa), who wages war on the
school principal. The ending was clever enough, and Toramasa's hilarious
old war stories never get truly old. The one episode on this disc
worth watching.
The second stanza, "Back to the Way We Were... Please!" had me saying
"Please Stop!" throughout the whole thrity minutes. Ranma, Ryoga and
Mousse find themselves faced with three oil drums, one of which contains
the legendary "Spring of Drowned Man." But, instead of just testing
it on a squirrel or something, they all get paranoid and destroy all
three drums. I could stand watching their cure go by the wayside,
but to have it happen like THAT... ugh. If the "Martial Arts
Calligraphy" episode hadn't been so bad, this one would have gone
down as my worst episode of season six.
The disc tries to redeem itself with "Ryoga Inherits the Saotome School."
Genma, out of his mind once again, dumps Ranma for stealing his candy
(how dumb is that), and uses Ryoga to get back at him. Now, Ryoga
might be a little dense, but to side with GENMA? Come on. Anyways,
Ranma and Ryoga have this little duel at the end that is so pathetic
and slow it looks more like Genma vs. Soun. The only redeeming moment
is when Ranma and Ryoga turn their anger towards Genma, giving him
the severe beating he deserves. This whole disc is just short of embarrasing.
I really hate bashing Ranma discs, but this one truly deserves it.
Buy this one only to finish out your set. You'll only get maybe one
good viewing out of it.
