209: いまわしき予言
Imawashiki yogen
(Unlucky Prophecy)
Sabato visits Renge at Sankai High and tells her that he wants her to steal Annette's crystal ball so that he can resell it on the black market. Annette offers to read Renge's fortune, and Sakura attempts to warn her teacher about the plan to swipe the crystal ball, but Annette calmly explains that she already knows about it. Renge uses a pen to draw a portal to the spirit path on Annette's desk and covers it in plastic wrap so that when she places the ball on the desk it will fall through where Sabato can swipe it away. Her plan works perfectly and Sabato catches the ball when it falls through the desk, but thankfully Rinne is waiting to steal it back. He returns it to Annette who finishes her reading of an unimpressed Renge. Much to everyone's surprise the ball shows Kain handcuffing Renge in the near future. Renge storms off, but not before Annette can see that all of her misfortune is as a result of Sabato's meddling. Outside Kain suddenly appears behind Renge, frightening her and causing her to knock him into the air so that she can avoid her potential arrest. Rinne and Sakura go to speak to Kain who reveals he has heard rumors of a crystal ball that needs to be recovered in the area. Renge overhears him and decides she will try to get on his good side by taking Annette's crystal ball and turning it over to Kain. Renge runs off to look for Annette, but Annette winds up telling Kain that he should go help Renge find the the crystal ball, leading him to pursue her.

210: 悲劇的結末
Higekiteki ketsumatsu
(Tragic Conclusion)
Peering into the crystal ball Annette still sees a future where Renge is handcuffed by Kain, as she gazes further she sees a strange scene- Renge holding a crystal ball. Outside in the street Renge wanders alone, frustrated that Sabato has charged her with stealing Annette's crystal ball. The red-headed scoundrel finds her and asks how her plans to steal it are coming along before leaving her with an old, worn out crystal ball that he found in a garbage dump to use as a substitute. This fulfills Annette's vision of seeing Renge holding a crystal ball from earlier. Frustrated Renge throws the ball at Sabato's head, but he vanishes and it strikes Kain instead. When Kain recovers he and Renge head to the school where Kain spots Annette holding the crystal ball he was sent to recover. He immediately blames Rinne for the theft, and during the commotion Sabato hurls the fake crystal ball through a portal to smack Kain in the head. Kain promptly chases after the fleeing Sabato, while Renge picks up the crystal to make the switch. Before she can though, Annette shows her a vision in her crystal ball- it shows Renge brutally stabbing Kain in the head with her scythe after being handcuffed. In the afterlife Sabato uses a piece of tape to swipe a stand of Kain's hair and uses it to create an inflatable doll that looks exactly like him. It is this doll that returns and handcuffs Renge and when Rinne pops the inflatable tube out of its back, Renge attacks it, stabbing the fake in the head with her scythe which promptly deflates him. Sabato uses this confusion to exchange the crystal balls, but when he takes the pilfered ball back to the afterlife to sell he realizes he mistakenly stole the fake crystal, leaving Annette with her original.

211: 銀色のカマ
Gin iro no kama
(Silver Scythe)
Refuto and Raito bring Rinne a silver scythe to try out, though he is skeptical about the price of such a weapon. The rabbits claim that they found it in their storeroom after it was left behind by their predecessor. Because they do not know what the purpose of the silver scythe is and only a licensed shinigami is allowed to use it Raito asks Rinne to try it out for them and gives him five hundred yen for his trouble. Raito uses incense to summon the evil spirit of a mummy which Rinne promptly dispatches, but after doing so he notices the silver on the blade of the scythe has scratched off revealing something underneath. Using it again on another spirit causes more of the silver coating to flake away. Suddenly a yen symbol can be seen followed by a 100. Rokumon immediately realizes that this scythe must be the legendary "silver scratch-off" scythe. The scythe was designed to make shinigami more productive, for each time it cuts an evil spirit more of the silver coating flakes off to reveal the scythe's value just like a scratch-off lottery ticket. Rinne immediately returns the 500 yen fee he was given to try out the scythe upon realizing he could win one million yen if he has the lucky scratch-off scythe. Swing after swing more and more zeros are revealed, shocking Rinne with the possibility that he could be a millionaire. Finally the last slash reveals that Rinne has not won a million yen, but instead 100 million yen. He promptly faints from shock only to have Refuto and Raito attempt to steal it from him. Thankfully Rokumon saves the scythe and Rinne promptly heads to the afterlife to cash it in. When he presents it to the man at the lottery he finds out the scythe is worthless. After consulting the journal of the Mikazuki Temple's previous owner Raito and Refuto learn that the scythe was just for practice. The previous owner who made the real silver-peeling scythes made a few defective ones because he constantly lost track of the zeroes he was putting on the blade.

212: 児童館の異変
Jidoukan no ihen
(The Unusual Event at the Children's Home)
Rinne receives a letter in the weather hutch from someone saying they're bothered by a troublesome rumor. Rinne stops by a dojo to speak with a second year judo club member named Sanjiro Sugata. His fellow club members think he is being attacked by children because he is covered in tiny handprints all over his legs and face, but Sanjiro insists nothing like that is happening and even says he does not like children and so he avoids them entirely. Sanjiro takes Rinne to the children's home a place he has been going all of his life, it is a type of welfare service where children can play and study free of charge. When they arrive they find Sakura and her friends there as well. Sakura asks Rinne if he's investigating the strange phenomena that has been occurring and points out a leafless tree which Sanjiro has tied a punching mat around it's trunk. It seems all the leaves mysteriously fell off overnight. Sanjiro begins his exercises on the mat tied to the tree and some children come by to taunt him, momentarily making Rinne and the others think they will see the cause of all the handprints that cover his body. He chases the children away when suddenly a huge clump of leaves smashes against his face. Rinne quickly explains that it has been the autumn leaves slapping against him all along leaving what looks like handprints on his body. The spirit of the tree seems to have a grudge against Sanjiro Sugata. Once again Sanjiro tries to tug and kick the tree, irritating it until it speaks to him, revealing it is the kami of the tree that is irritated. Using a shinto shimenawa rope Rinne binds the leaves and reveals the physical form of the kami- a giant leaf with a face and spindly body attached. The leaf kami promptly challenges Sanjiro to a match, but the young man ties him up with his judo holds easily. The curse is broken and he is freed of the leaf marks- until he visits Rinne again with gingko leaf marks on his face after similarly irritating the kami of another tree.

213: 疑われたりんね
Utagawareta Rinne
(The Suspect - Rinne)
One day in the afterlife Rinne goes to the pawnshop to try to get some money for his tea kettle when he suddenly wins a prize for being the one-millionth customer. Rinne is then told that for 1,000 yen he can have a chance to toss darts at a spinning wheel and if his dart hits the right mark he could win anywhere from 10 to 10,000 yen. Back at Sankai High one of the vending machines seems to be eating everyone's money without giving them anything to drink. When the machine was opened though, no money was found inside. As everyone frets over the vending machine Rinne arrives jangling coins in his hand and commenting that though he did not win the 10,000 yen he managed to get 3,000 after a few tosses of the darts and has a little spending money now. In class Annette asks everyone to close their eyes and whomever stole the money from the vending machine to raise their hand. Everyone silently thinks that Rinne will surely raise his hand, but he sits with his eyes closed just like everyone else. Suddenly Annette's crystal ball flashes an image of Rinne wearing his haori and sticking a ghostly hand into the vending machine which immediately tells Annette that he's going to rob the machine in the future. Tsubasa and Renge both see the image and announce loudly to the class that Rinne is the thief, but Sakura and Rinne both deny it. Renge states the Rinne is no different than his father and Tsubasa shoves him, making all of his earlier winnings fall suspiciously onto the floor. Everyone seems to think Rinne is behind the theft and when he sees doubt in Sakura's eyes he tosses a smoke bomb and runs away which only makes him look more suspicious. Outside Rinne dons his haori and goes to look at the fending machine where he finds a portal over the coin slot that seems to be taking all the money into the afterlife. Sakura and Annette watch as he places his hand inside the portal, making it look as if he's slipping his hand into the machine to steal more just like her crystal ball showed her. As Rinne slips inside the portal to see where it leads his money is sucked out of his pockets towards a void. Slicing the void he is spit out of the machine along with his money which he hurriedly gathers up- unfortunately Sakura and Annette think he is gathering up money that the machine spit out, not realizing it was actually Rinne's earlier winnings. When Renge and Tsubasa accuse him of being caught red-handed, Rinne has no choice but to run away with the money.

214: 四角くて黒いやつ
Shikaku kute kuroi yatsu
(The Dark Cube)
Rokumon leads Sakura to Rinne's home, explaining how it was that he was able to win some money which has made everyone suspicious that he had stolen it from the vending machine. Rinne is hiding in the spirit road, thinking about the black cube that he encountered when investigating the machine and was pulling all the cash from the machine. Rinne vows to prove his innocence and takes all of his savings to use as bait. Rinne returns to the vending machine to investigate but Renge and Tsubasa are lying in wait and ambush him, believing he is once again trying to steal from the machine. Rinne flees into the spirit road once again, leaving Tsubasa and Renge to ask Annette to use her crystal ball to locate him. When she peers into it she sees an old woman sweeping up trash. Later that day Rinne is again attacked inside the spirit path by the black cube. When Rinne slashes it coins fall out. Unfortunately Renge and Tsubasa interrupt his battle with the black cube. Suddenly Annette arrives and tries to buy a soda as Rinne fights overhead. As she turns to put her coins in the vending machine, she notices the old woman she saw in her crystal ball. Upon further examination, she recalls that there was an empty space behind the woman in the crystal ball where a vending machine currently stands. The old woman explains that the machine is scheduled to be removed tomorrow. Tsubasa and Sakura quickly realize that the black cube Rinne is fighting against is the vengeful spirit of the vending machine that is scheduled for removal. Sakura points out that the spirit of the vending machine must recall when little children used to come to the store more regularly and sought out kids by possessing the vending machine at Sankai High. The spirit returns to the vending machine and Rinne starts to leave with all the money that he took from the vending machine spirit with each slash of his scythe, but unfortunately he has to give the money back to all the students who lost it to the possessed vending machine.

215: 中身がない
Nakami ga nai
(Nothing Inside)
In the days following the school festival there is a general malaise among the student body of Sankai High. Sakura notices a boy that looks particularly downtrodden as he roams the halls. Meanwhile Rinne has broken down and bought a nikuman (meat bun) for himself. He smells it with anticipation and then splits it open only to be shocked and devastated- all the meat is missing, the bun has nothing inside. Just then Ageha arrives carrying dozens of nikuman for Rinne. Unfortunately he quickly finds out that they too are empty of all their meat fillings. Just then Rinne spots an ominous black cloud hovering in the corner of his room and a slash with his scythe reveals it to be a giant nikuman with a strange smile on its face. The giant nikuman flies away, hovering around the school eating the fillings out of everyone's mean buns. Rinne realizes just how powerful this entity is when he realizes that the other students can see it as it flies around. Ageha force-feeds the giant bun a pill to kick its desires into overdrive, causing the meat bun to collapse onto the ground. Suddenly someone calls out "Nikutaro!" It is Hariko, the boy Sakura noticed in the halls earlier who seemed so blue. He explains that when his homeroom decided to sell nikuman for the school festival he was placed in charge of making something to help draw attention to their room. Unfortunately after putting in hours of work the class decided to sell yakisoba instead. It seems Nikutaro was to be thrown away after the festival without seeing any use at all. Rinne uses his Sense Coating Spray on Nikutaro revealing a pudgy invisible body dangling from the head which makes him realize the mask is looking for a body so it can get some use. Rinne forces the mask onto Hariko's head, and once the mask was finally worn it disappears after finally having served its purpose. Later Hariko brings Rinne and Sakura some anman (bean jam buns) to make up for the trouble he caused, but Rinne cracks it open and finds it empty before asking if Hariko made a girlfriend for Nikutaro. He confirms he made Anko, who's bean jam face looms ominously in the window.

216: 夢魔捕縛実習
Muma hobaku jisshuu
(Succubi Capture Training)
Rinne dreams that Sakura is running towards him in a flowery field with a picnic basket filled with goodies. Just as Sakura is about to feed him a tasty treat he looks up to find Matsugo trying to feed him which shocks him awake. At school the next day Sakura greets Rinne cheerfully and offers him a sandwich for lunch, but suddenly Matsugo replaces her again and Rinne jolts awake, realizing once again he was having a terrible dream. The scene seems to repeat itself making Rinne uneasy the following day at school, where he eventually falls asleep at his desk. Sakura, Renge and Tsubasa notice a little creature appear above Rinne's head and dive into his mind, promptly ruining another dream of he and Sakura enjoying a rowboat ride.Tsubasa eventually explains to Rinne that he seems to be afflicted with a nightmare demon- a succubi. He explains to Sakura that the little creature is a low level western spirit that corrupts dreams by replacing members of the opposite sex. Rinne, Sakura, Tsubasa and Renge decide to pay a visit to Matsugo's home to further investigate his ties to this creature. His black cat, Kuromitsu, greets them and shows them in, where they find Matsugo sleeping restlessly. She explains that he is currently practicing his succubi capturing, when suddenly he wakes, seemingly aggitated and yet upon seeing Rinne he claims that he is still dreaming and happily tries to embrace him, earning him a knock on the head from Rinne. Matsugo explains he was having a wonderful dream of Rinne frolicking with him on a beach when suddenly Rinne was replaced by Anju which upset Matsugo greatly. Renge explains that the succubi can be captured in the dream and Matsugo says that his class was recently given some Dream Consolidation Insense for just such a purpose. It seems Matsugo left some in Rinne's room which is what allowed their dreams to merge and for the succubi to escape into Rinne's dreams hoping that perhaps Rinne could help him to catch the creature. Rinne begrudgingly agrees to help and soon finds himself lost in dreamland inside an igloo with a very happy Matsugo.

217: 夢のような世界
Yume no you na sekai
(Dreamlike World)
Stuck inside their frozen dream world together, Matsugo becomes a bit aggressive with Rinne who tries to remind him that they are there to deal with the little succubi that has escaped. Matsugo tells Rinne that he has no intention of catching the little monster because it would end the dream if they did. Thankfully Anju enters the dream and bursts into the little igloo dressed in a wedding gown as she tries to capture Matsugo. She seems overjoyed to have shared a brief conversation with her idol. Just then Rinne notices smoke and spies the dream incense that has brought everyone together into this dream world. Rinne dashes towards it, realizing it is his pathway into another dream, one that will keep him away from Matsugo if nothing else. Back in the real world Sakura, Tsubasa and Renge watch over Rinne and Matsugo as they sleep, but Renge soon dozes off after smelling Matsugo's insence. In her dream she and Kain are school mates and are both madly in love with one another, but Rinne jumps into the dream, breaking Kain into dozens of little versions of himself. Matsugo pursues Rinne, grabbing his hand and suddenly they are both wearing wedding tuxedos as Anju follows. Next Rinne finds himself in Tsubasa's dream where he finds Sakura happily playing housewife to the exorcist after a hard day at work. When Rinne starts fighting Tsubasa he is crushed when the dream version of Sakura sides with Tsubasa. Matsugo tries to comfort Rinne, saying that they'll always have each other which crushes Rinne who comments that would be an eternal hell. Just then the little succubi appears and Rinne swiftly chases after him. Just as he is about to leave, Tsubasa asks the dream-Sakura to take a bath with him, so Rinne steals her away as well. Dream-Sakura hurls insults at Rinne as he destroys dream-Kain once again after pushing his way into Renge's dream only to see Matsugo has conjured his own dream-Rinne to frolic with. Finally everyone teams up to restrain Rinne who is running around disrupting their dreams. In the real world Sakura dozes off and enters the dream where she sees Rinne happily clutching a jug full of yen coins. The real Rinne notices that the little succubi is hiding in the jug amidst all the coins and swiftly jumps in to steal it away. Now the dream Rinne dons a police uniform and chases after the thief. The jug shatters and all the coins turn to sand and Rinne becomes frustrated with Sakura's dream interpretation of him. Finally the real Rinne punches himself in the face, shocking Sakura but quickly reveals that he was smashing the bug-sized succubi that had landed on his face. With everything resolved Rinne can finally rest in peace.

218: サンタの恨み
Santa no urami
(Santa's Grudge)
One December morning Annette comes to school begging Rinne for help. Rinne and Sakura immediately notice the vengeful-looking spirit of Santa Claus floating over their homeroom teacher with an angry look on his face. Annette explains that she has no memory of what happened and has a bad headache as well. Annette uses her crystal ball to see what happened the previous night that she cannot recall. It seems she went to a year-end party with her friends, sang karaoke and then got exceedingly drunk, which explains her headache. After leaving the party she attacked any images, statues or store signs featuring Santa, going so far as to try to drunkenly take a store Santa's sack full of gifts. Using some spiritual powder Rinne is able to trace the Santa spirit to its origin thinking it will be somewhere along the trail of Annette's drunken rampage through the city. Surprisingly everyone is lead to Annette's house where they locate a small Santa doll. Rinne offers the doll his “doll microphone” which allows inanimate objects to speak about what is troubling them, but the microphone only picks up interference. Next he tries a tsukumogami seal to bring the doll to life but it is incinerated as soon as he tries to place it on Santa. Tsubasa uses a sword covered in holy water to swipe at the doll, but a barrier protects it and he gets struck by lightning for his attempt. Annette once again uses her crystal balls to investigate what she might have done to upset the Santa doll. It seems she rode home in a taxi after her drunken rampage, but she soon remembers that her friends tossed her in the taxi and she did not have enough money to pay the cab driver. Perhaps that was what angered Santa? She then remembers stumbling into her house to ask her mother and grandmother for cab fare. She remembered that her grandmother had been hiding her pension money in the little Santa doll's bag after sealing it with a spell. While she was drunk Annette attacked the doll to take its money. Once she reimburse the doll, Santa's haunting spirit departs. Unfortunately a few days later, Santa is haunting Annette again after another all night bender.
