Chapter 329: 幽霊堂のお札
Yuureidou no osatsu

(Ghost Temple Talisman)
Little Kuroboshi III becomes concerned when his grandfather and namesake is laid up with a strained back, leaving him to have to tend to his grandfather's commitments. Tamako and the elder Kuroboshi tell the little cat that in order to help his grandfather get better he will need to go to the Ghost Temple and take an offering of a paper talisman from inside the rickety old structure. The loyal little kitten immediately tells his grandfather he will go and place the talisman not realizing that the building is haunted and his tremendous fear of ghosts will make this a very difficult task. Kuroboshi III immediately goes to talk to Rinne and offers to pay him to go in his stead but Rinne refuses, telling the little cat that money cannot solve all his problems. The elder Kuroboshi comes to visit Rinne to thank him for turning down his grandson's monetary offer, but has to pay Rinne off to keep him silent that the back injury is merely a sham. Outside Kuroboshi III runs into Rokumon and convinces the little cat to help him for the sake of his grandfather. Rokumon tries his best but the ghosts inside the temple prove to be too much for him as well. The two black cats immediately tell Sakura about their plight and Rinne realizes that he can impress his classmate by giving in and helping Kuroboshi III retrieve the paper talisman, though he secretly tries to get the little cat to pay him as well. The elder Kuroboshi and Tamako attempt to pay Rinne off to once again refuse to help Kuroboshi III and the red-headed shinigami feigns a severe injury. Rokumon tries to help Kuroboshi III by giving him a blindfold so he does not have to look at the ghosts inside, but he manages to run into a post and knock himself out. By the time he wakes up, the ghosts (who were employed by Tamako) have already left for the day and the little cat successfully retrieves the talisman.

Chapter 330: にじんだメモ書
Nijinda memo

(Blurred Memo)
On a rainy day Rinne and Rokumon discover a slip of paper in the weather hutch, the rain having smeared the ink making it difficult to read. After studying the smeared note for a bit Rinne is able to make out the name of one of his schoolmates, Hajime Otsukai. When Rinne inquires what the student had written in his rain-ruined memo Hajime confesses that he is not sure which seems odd until his hand begins to frantically write on its own. Hajime's hand scribbles out a grocery list filled with sweets and he explains that something similar happened before. Hajime is the only male member of the cooking club at school and when he was sent out to buy various ingredients his armed noted down a list of sweets instead. Another time he was requested to get ingredients for a cake only to return with mayonnaise and yogurt after erroneously writing down the wrong items. Rinne takes Hajime back to his apartment where Tsubasa and Sakura join him. Hajime continues to scribble away until water from Rinne's leaking roof ruins yet another set of notes causing a ghost to spring out of Hajime in frustration. When confronted with the notes the ghost seems to have no idea what they mean either. Rinne soon notices fetters connecting the spirit to Hajime who is completely unaware of the phantom's presence. As Hajime begins to once again lament his status in the cooking club and his position as the only male member it triggers a memory the ghost had forgotten. The ghost remembers that at the time of his death he had just finished cramming for his college entrance exams and upon being accepted he was now free to begin his love life. Consequently he joined a club that was predominantly women in hopes of meeting a girlfriend. The ghost had died while carrying the list of things needed for a party his new club was planning. Thinking that they can help the ghost move on if they throw the party Rinne, Sakura and Tsubasa buy the odd items from the various lists, though the strange assortment leaves them to wonder what sort of party was being thrown. The ghost struggles to remember and Rinne uses a channeling doll to create a fake version of the girl he had a crush on. When she speaks she has a strong Osaka accent and the ghost promptly remembers he wanted to prepare takoyaki, octopus puffs, for his party. These were not to be just any takoyaki however, he wanted to play "takoyaki Russian roulette" where strange and grotesque ingredients were hidden inside some of the puffy coatings.

Chapter 331: 草刈さん
Kusakari-san

(Mr. Kusakari)
Rinne is folding silk flowers in his apartment with Sakura while awaiting the return of his scythe from some routine maintenance from Raito and Refuto. Suddenly a portal opens and the scythe is dumped unceremoniously onto Rinne's table. Rinne unwraps it and is shocked to find the blade is covered in rust and is in worse condition that it was when he dropped it off. He immediately demands that the twin rabbits explain what happened but finds that their workshop is also covered in rusted tools and grime. Soon it comes to light that the twins have recently started buying products from a new salesman, Mr. Kusakari. Sakura is surprised that the twins can afford to have an outside business partner given how little money they make, but Raito explains that Mr. Kusakari works for no money at all. Suddenly Mr. Kusakari appears though he is a rather odd looking fellow- a suit and tie wearing giant ball of corrosion. When Mr. Kusakari introduces himself to Rinne he licks his scythe leaving a long band of rust on it and it becomes clear that their problems originate with him. Finally Refuto and Raito convince Rinne to help and using rust remover he scours away Mr. Kusakari's head until he finds an old, dirty handheld grass-cutting sickle buried inside. Rinne soon realizes that Mr. Kusakari must have been an old retired sickle that was never properly disposed of and thanked for its years of service and hence became something of an evil spirit.

Chapter 332: 鳳,家を出る
Ageha, ie wo deru

(Ageha, Go Home)
One day in class Rinne surprises Sakura by suddenly telling her he will pay her back for all of the money he has been borrowing from her to help pay for his exorcisms and his basic living expenses, however he does not elaborate on how he has managed to get the money to do this. Meanwhile in the afterlife Ageha is having a fight with her parents and tells them she is leaving home. Meanwhile Rinne travels to an ATM to find that the money he has been waiting to be reimbursed to him for his work has finally come through and he can now pay Sakura back as promised. Much to his shock he finds Ageha has moved into his apartment with her huge luxury bed taking up half of his room and all of his things pushed off to one side. She explains to Rinne that she left after her parents scolded her for losing their credit card five or six times. Ageha explains that she has decided to live on her own and be self reliant before suddenly presenting Rinne with a luxurious melon and telling him it is her first rent payment. Rinne immediately thinks that this is a great opportunity for him to make some additional income when Sakura, Tsubasa and Renge appear. Sakura seems stunned to find Ageha living with Rinne and while Rinne tries to justify to everyone that he is trying to make some money Sakura leaves on her own. Sakura coldly tells Rinne that she knows he is trying to pay her back with Ageha's money and she does not want it if so. Before Rinne can explain Oboro pulls a stopper out of the spirit way and Rinne falls through a portal making it seem to Sakura like he ran away without explaining. When Rinne returns home he finds Ageha has ordered a supply of exorcism tools and tries to pay the delievery man using the 5,000 yen Rinne has set aside to pay Sakura. He promptly refuses to hand the money over and nearly throws a fit when Ageha's parents send her some expensive wagyu beef to try and show her the value of money. However Rinne quickly relents when he realizes how delicious it will be.

Chapter 333: 甘えた生活
Amaeta seikatsu

(Spoiled Living)
Walking home after school Sakura is still stuck on the realization that Rinne and Ageha are living together. On her way she discoveres a rumpled looking ghost of a girl crawling around on the ground and desperately asking if anyone has seen her billfold. Sakura winds up not making it to school that day, leaving Rinne frustrated as he had planned to pay her back. For his part Rinne is struggling with his own willpower, walking around with the money he has carefully saved to pay back Sakura, he thinks about how nervous he is that he may spend it on something before he can pay her off. Back at his apartment Rinne finds Ageha continues to live life to the fullest, forgetting that she does not have her parents' credit card to finance her lifestyle. Making it all the more difficult is the fact that Rinne is getting offers to deal with ghosts, and so Ageha uses some Spirit Gathering Incense and lures that ghost that Sakura was trying to help into Rinne's apartment. Rinne manages to pay Sakura, telling her to trust him that the money is not from Ageha and then he is able to focus on dealing with the ghost's problem. Using an illusory lantern Ageha conjures the location where the ghost lost her pocketbook- a shopping street. Soon Ageha finds herself so lightheaded from the lack of quality food she has been getting since moving in with Rinne that she nearly faints. With no money Ageha manages to find the ghost's missing pocketbook, though she plans to use the money to buy herself a meal to eat. The ghost is overjoyed that her pocketbook was found and is able to pass on leaving Rinne to treat Ageha to a meal with the money he had set aside to pay Sakura. Instead of pressing the money into her hand he realizes too late that he gave her the receipt from his ATM visit. Ageha finally learns her lesson and returns home, claiming that is the best place for her, though Oboro discovers her lost credit card suggesting that she will have many more financial temptations to overcome.

Chapter 334: 路地の近道
Roji no chikamichi

(Shortcut Alley)
Rinne receives an odd letter from a freshman student explaining an unusual shortcut he took to school one day while running late. He slipped down an alley and rather than coming out at the school he suddenly appeared in front of the Tokyo Dome. Rinne and Sakura plan to investigate the strange story while across town at the elementary school little Ichigo sees Tamako, her former mother-in-law, for the first time since she was reincarnated. At the shortcut alley Rinne is able to see that there is a spirit path placed in the short cut with a nearby abandoned home as the likely location for the strange events going on. Suddenly a friendly old lady ghost appears in the yard. She explains that students often cut through the little alley in front her home and she cheerfully would tell them not to be late for school. Eventually she realized they could no longer see her and learned that she must have died at some point. Rinne explains to her that despite trying to help the students get to school on time she is actually opening portals to random places and making them even later than they would normally be. Rinne explains to her that he will help her to move on into the afterlife but the old woman says there is nothing she needs to finish and does not wish to pass on. When Rinne examines the spirit path in her yard the old woman pushes him into it, causing him to become lost in the path between worlds. Suddenly the friendly old woman seems strange and slightly sinister. Just then Ichigo arrives and it seems that the old woman has something in store for her, Sakura and Rokumon.

Chapter 335: 庭の裏口
Niwa no uraguchi

(The Backdoor in the Garden)
Stuck in the spiritual space between the afterlife and the land of the living Rinne sees exits flashing past as far away as Tokyo Tower and Mount Fuji. He lingers, knowing he has to get back to Sakura soon and that none of these exits will get him there. Tamako appears and explains to Rinne that the old woman's ghost is the one who has mucked up the spirit way and turned it into a maze. Rinne and his grandmother take a moment to place stop signs up to close the random holes that lead to the wrong exits that the ghost has created. Back in the world of the living Ichigo asks the old ghost if she and Sakura can stay for tea in order to buy some time to investigate the portal. Like Rinne, Ichigo tries to spur the spirit into talking in order to try to find out what has caused this problem. The ghost explains that her late husband was the vice-principal of Sankai High many years ago and students would often stop by to say hello to him on their way to school. The old ghost explains that her husband was a people pleaser and when word got out to students they would take advantage of his easy going nature and cut through their garden as a shortcut to school. After the vice-principal's retirement the students did not come through as frequently and the ghost suspected her husband started to become a bit lonely though he reassured her he was not. She put up a sign trying to direct students to pass through their garden as a shortcut. The students continued to come for twenty years and when Ichigo asks if the old woman minded she insists she liked it, though her smile seems ominous. Suddenly she reveals something happened one day and the teapot and dishes begin to fly about as her dark spiritual powers start to rise. Just then Rinne and Tamako arrive and explain what went wrong on that fateful day so many years ago. It turns out that the old woman had resented the students cutting through her yard all these years and decided to tie some of her long grass together into little knots to catch the feet of passing students. Instead the knot caught her foot and caused her to fall to her death. At her funeral many students came out to pay their respects making her regret her momentary actions of tying the grass together to trip them. Everyone wonders then why she is lingering in this life if there was such a cathartic ending for her when Rinne realizes the spirit path in her yard must be a clue. Tamako removes the spirit way and Rinne touches the short gate just beyond it and feels something sticky on the wood. It turns out that the old woman shoved him into the spirit way to prevent him from touching the pine tar she coated her fence in all those years ago to snare students and had made the spirit path to help other sudents avoid the old trap she could not longer disarm. With the tar cleaned away the old woman's ghost is finally able to pass on.

Chapter 336: 呪いの言葉
Noroi no kotoba

(Curse Words)
Aoi Hada is a popular third year student who is crossing the schoolyard when Sakura notices a faint haze around her. Suddenly Aoi falls to her knees in a moment of weakness and is helped to the nurses office. It seems Aoi is anemic but hardly seems surprised at her diagnosis. Outside Rinne reads a letter that was left in the weather hutch. Another third year student named Jin Semizu says that he has heard the whispered words of a curse. When Rinne inquires what the word is Jin is unable to make himself say it, but all around him people say "drop" causing him to shudder and quake in fear. He explains that he began hearing the voice as he would study about ten days ago. As he tried to prepare for his exams the voice would constantly say "drop" over and over which unnerved him. Jin explains that he cannot think of any reason why he might be cursed. Jin thinks back to when it started and recalls falling asleep at his desk at school and knocking his pencil off his desk only to find Aoi handing it back to him when he roused. Meanwhile Aoi is telling Sakura that she too has been hearing words whispered to her as if from a curse. Rinne begins doing some research and finds that there are some spiritual tethers link Jin's pencil to Aoi. Jin reveals that he has had a crush on Aoi for the past two years and only this year finally had the opportunity to sit next to her in class. One day he noticed that Aoi uses a mechanical pencil and went out and bought the same one. However the next day at school he noticed that Aoi seemed irritated when she saw he had the same pencil. Jin had hoped that having the same pencil might help him get into the same university that Aoi was aiming for. Rinne points out that the desires of both Aoi and Jin had been invested into their mechanical pencils which lead to the voices or "curses" they were hearing. Aoi's pencil was whispering for Jin to "drop" because Aoi was trying to lose weight, while Jin's pencil was telling her to "go up by 50", the points he needed to get into a good school on his exam which she took to mean a curse making her gain weight.

    Uwaki no genba

    (The Fooling-Around Spot)
Everyone is spending their summer afternoon poolside when Miho suddenly relates the story of a strange entity said to haunt the pool. Apparently the ghost lurks behind people and suddenly grabs them as they are swimming laps. She finds Tsubasa lounging at the side of the pool and asks him to do something about it. Tsubasa says the story goes that the ghost will only attack couples, and then only the woman. Tsubasa is delighted because he knows Rinne was invited to the pool by Miho only to tell them he could never afford such a thing. Tsubasa announces he that he and Sakura will pose as a couple to lure the ghost out, only for it to suddenly appear. As soon as the ghostly hand tries to touch Sakura Rinne appears to snatch it and protect her. Much to everyone's surprise the ghostly grabber is revealed to be a female ghost. She explains that her boyfriend was exceedingly sexy and popular and she had to fend off many rivals for his affections. The ghost explains that she was at the pool for less than ten minutes before he was making an excuse to slip away. The pool is organized as a circle with a constantly flowing current making it something like a lazy river. While she waited for her boyfriend to return she finally spotted him on the other side of the center island with another girl. With the current like it was, the ghost could never catch back up with her straying boyfriend and finally drowned by tiring herself out trying to swim in the opposite direction to meet him. When Rinne asks the ghost what was her lingering attachment to the world of the living she struggled to state it clearly but said she wanted to cement her boyfriend's love for her on that date before he was stolen from her. Using a new tool, a "field reproduction tube" Rinne is able to diffuse the ghost's memory of the day into the water, conjuring an image of her boyfriend with the other girl. After watching for a moment they see the scene play out thanks to a tsukumogami seal placed in the swimming pool. It seems her boyfriend mistook a girl that looked quite a lot like the ghost for her and when he realized his mistake he apologized and sought out his girlfriend instead. Due to the cheap items Rinne used the images start to fade before the girl has made peace with her situation. Finally the ghost gets a look at the girl in question and sees that she looks almost identical to her and immediately forgives her boyfriend for mistaking them for one another.

    Chapter 338: デッキに近づくな
    Dekki ni chikadukuna

    (Don't Approach the Deck)
A sunny day at the seaside looks like it will be relaxing and ghost free. Everyone is enjoying playing in the surf and then shooting fireworks off of a wooden deck that is just off the shoreline until a ghost arrives and tries to scare everyone away. Rinne, Ageha, Sakura, Tsubasa and Rokumon soon learn that the ghost had once tried to invite a girl he liked to have a special romantic moment on the deck only for other partiers to ruin his fun. That night he swam out and splashed water at the partiers from the darkness and knocked on the deck from below to scare everyone away. Having succeed he peeks out only to see the girl he had a crush on talking to another boy as the nearby lighthouse flashed in the darkness. The ghost explains that he wanted to have a romantic moment like this and they discover a little heart attached to a stick on the corner of the wooden deck. When the light of the lighthouse shines on it, it creates a beautiful heart-shaped shadow around any couple who might be standing behind it. The shadow appears on Rinne and Sakura, enraging Tsubasa. Finally Rinne lends his haori to the forlorn ghost thinking he would like to experience something like this with a girl, only for the ghost to rip up the little heart-stick and toss it into the ocean as he shouted curses. With his anger now sated he is able to happily pass on to the next life.
