Chapter 359: 雨降れ!
Amefure!

(It Rained!)
Tomorrow the school is hosting a marathon and all the students are begging Annette to tell them if it will rain using her crystal ball to see into the future. Annette does so, but the vision she sees is of herself with Rinne, stranding at the starting line of the race in the pouring rain with an unfamiliar ghost. Annette wants the race to be rained out so that she does not have to supervise it and so she is quite excited to see the vision in her crystal ball. Racing over to Rinne's apartment Annette, Tsubasa and Sakura find Rinne speaking with the ghost that was shown in her crystal ball. It seems that while the young man was alive anytime an important outdoor even was to be held it would rain. He said he thought at first it was a coincidence, but it continually happened during family vacations, camping trips and eventually the marathon day at school. Rinne explains that during his life the boy was a "rain man" and brought stormy weather with him wherever he went. Sakura fears he will cause the marathon to be rained out if he attends. The ghost explained that he always excelled during the marathons he ran because he was used to training in the rain, however his competitors were not and they would often exhaust themselves while he still had energy to burn thanks to his unusual training circumstances. The ghost explains that he had really hoped to run a marathon before his death but his coach had told him to sit out and rest. The rain man knows the real reason his coach wanted him to sit out however- that particular race would be cancelled due to rain unlike the others. Rain man explains that he did not sit out of the tournament but began a course of "special training". The night before the marathon was a clear, bright night and he knew it would be sunny for the race, however he died during his training preventing him from ever getting to run that final, clear weather race. Rinne insists that the ghost should be able to run, though he knows thanks to Annette's crystal ball that the race will be rained out. Instead he uses an Illusionary Lantern to make the ghost believe it is running a clear weather marathon. Annette however wants the race cancelled and the ghost's presence there will ensure it. Her desire to have him race seems altruistic, but only she knows the real reason. The day of the marathon comes, and as Annette predicted the rain man brings rain. Rinne seems more angry that the fee for the lantern he rented cannot be refunded. As the rain drizzles down the ghost looks at a sports bottle sitting on a table that Annette says is a special drink she made just for him. Blushing the ghost and suddenly recalls his his former coach, revealing it was not a man, but a woman that he had a crush on. He had asked her to go on a date and she asked him not to come to the marathon so that it did not get rained out. The others realize she was just trying to put some distance between herself and the rain man. Annette's offer of a drink satisfies his desire to have his feelings reciprocated by a beautiful teacher and the ghost finally passes on.

Chapter 360: 薄汚れた札
Usu kegareta satsu

(The Lightly Used Bill)
Rinne's latest client has an unusual problem- she found a 10,000 yen note at an ATM machine. Thinking she had gotten lucky she felt slightly guilty about keeping it and tried to spend it only to find the bill kept returning to her no matter how many times she tried to spend it. She shows Rinne that she drew a small triangle on the bill in order to confirm that it is the same one that keeps returning to her. The girl believes the bill is cursed and when Rinne picks it up a phantom image of Yukichi Fukuzawa, the philosopher depicted on the 10,000 note materializes and tells him to use the bill. Rinne is shocked when the girl simply tells him he can have the 10,000 yen note leaving him feeling as if he is in a dream. Rinne and Rokumon promptly head out to spend their newfound wealth, intent on seeing if the bill really will continue to come back to them. The first thing they do is buy a huge meal at a restaurant only for Tsubasa and Sakura to discover how carelessly Rinne is spending his money. Tsubasa insults Rinne, saying he has always been borrowing money when it seems he has plenty of his own. Rinne feels guilty that he did not think to repay Sakura and instead only wanted to selfishly spend the money on himself. Just as the last of his food is arriving the waiter trips and spills everything offering to remake it before Rinne bows and and leaves without having spent his newfound 10,000 yen. Rinne explains the nature of the bill to Tsubasa and Sakura but then happily runs off to test it again, seeking to discover if he really can spend it over and over again. Strangely as he tries to some dark force bars his entry to various shops and arcades. Soon a spirit materializes and explains the nature of the 10,000 yen note. It seems when he was in college he "found" 10,000 yen in his friend's room and kept it for himself. Surprisingly the ghost's old college friend is the father of the girl who brought the money to Rinne in the first place. Using Rinne's haori the ghost apologizes and returns the money, though initially his old friend is unwilling to accept his thieving friend's apology. Finally the ghost is absolved and passes on and his old friend gives Rinne the 10,000 yen bill. Rinne is overjoyed only to watch the money turn to dust before his very eyes. Still, Yukichi Fukuzawa, who's face is on the 10,000 yen note lingers with Rinne urging him to spend only for Rinne to angrily remark he has no money to spend anymore.

Chapter 361: スペシャルなチョコ
Supesyaru na choko

(Special Chocolate)
While making preparations for Valentine's Day Sakura comes across the ghost of a young girl in the middle of a busy intersection. The ghost looks distraught and soon Rinne arrives to see what is amiss and how he can help her to pass on into the afterlife. The ghost explains that she had hoped to give a boy she liked homemade chocolate for Valentine's Day but had lost it somewhere. Rinne decides that they must help her remake her chocolate in order to encourage her to relinquish her earthly bonds. Rinne is nervous to offer this solution however as he knows the financial costs involved, but thankfully Sakura volunteers to let them come to her house and make chocolate. Soon however the ghosts true desires become more obscure. Sakura helps her to make a very pretty set of chocolates but upon tasting the delicious treat the ghost immediately throws them all in the garbage shocking Rinne. Finally she decides that she wants to make a large chocolate heart she can put some sort of filling into, but when she starts piping icing on the outside she writes "kill" on it much to the shock of Rinne, Rokumon and Sakura. She explains that she had made chocolate for a boy who then rejected her affections and now wants to take her revenge. Once again she makes another chocolate but fills the inside with wasabi. Rokumon brings a channeling doll to create a duplicate of the boy who turned her down and the chocolate is offered to him. Once again he turns the offer down but Rinne forces it to accept this time. Rather than giving the boy the chocolate however the ghost girl simply wanted to pretend to offer it to him and then smash it before he could accept as a form of revenge.

(The Stolen Puzzle Box)
While working at the Life Count Administration Bureau one day, Kain's co-workers hand him a puzzle box made of up sliding tiles that will create an image of two triangle when all the pieces are correctly aligned and the box will spring open. They explain that the spirit of a craftsman is stuck inside and they must open the box in order to help exorcise it. When Kain hears that there will be a bonus paid to whomever can open it he immediately agrees and takes the device home with him, working on it until late into the night. When he awakes the next morning the box is gone and he rushes to Suzu demanding that she tells him where it is. She explains that a burglar broke in and stoke the box, but that she managed to scratch his face before he fled. At the Damashigami Company headquarters Sabato toys with the box, sporting telling scratches on his face. The nearly solved box is now a scrambled mess thanks to his toying with it. Renge storms into his office and grows enraged as he continues to toy with it while she talks to him prompting her to yank it out of his hands and smash it into his head. Meanwhile Rokumon shows Rinne a wanted poster with a reward for the stolen box, prompting him to begin an investigation into its theft in hopes of making a little money for himself. The next day at school Rinne spots Renge sitting at her desk toying with the box when Ageha shows up looking for it as well. She tells Renge that the box was stolen from Kain and Renge immediately hides it, worried that she will be fingered as the culprit for stealing from her crush. Suddenly Sabato shows up at Sankai High looking for Renge to see if she still has his stolen puzzle box. Rinne immediately captures him and takes the box as well so that he can turn them in for the reward. Rokumon stops Rinne and points out that if he can solve the box he'll get a further financial bonus as well. Rinne manages to solve the puzzle box only for Sabato to kick him in the head and steal it away and then Renge does the same to him, snatching it on the steps of the Life Count Administration Bureau as Kain looks out, shocked to think that she may be the thief.

Chapter 363: お返しします
Okaeshishimasu

(I Will Return)
Looking out the window, Kain sees Renge carrying the stolen puzzle box and Sabato leaps in next to her, further making it appear as if they are accomplices in the theft. Sabato initially tries to make it seem as if he is returning the box for the reward, but the scratches on his face from Suzu mark him as the culprit. Sabato immediately summons a whirlwind and flees, dragging Renge and Rinne along with him which makes it appear they are all in this theft together. Renge tries to return the box to Kain once more, but as soon as he sees her he becomes furious and accuses her of being an accomplice. Renge is terrified that Kain has finally learned the truth about her unsavory background. Sabato snatches the box and flees and Kain is shocked he would leave behind his accomplices, which prompts Sabato to admit he alone is the burglar that broke into Kain's home and stole the puzzle box. Wrapping his face to hide his scars, Sabato plans to double-back to the Life Count Administration Bureau and claim the reward money, but when he tries to force the box open he realizes they have solved the puzzle incorrectly. The arrows on the lid are arranged to face inward, which is what closes the box. The sliding puzzle tiles must be moved to make the two arrows face outward to open the lid once more. Kain manages to snatch the box and Renge, who's name is now cleared and offered a sincere apology from Kain for the misunderstanding, helps to quickly solve the sliding tile puzzle. Though Suzu recklessly opens the box and lets the spirit trapped inside slip out, Kain manages to snag it inside of two buckets, thus allowing the trapped spirit to be sent to the Wheel of Reincarnation for its next life.

Chapter 364: 狭小霊道
Kyoushou reidou

(The Narrow Spiritual Path)
Shoma and his black cat by contract, Kurosu, have pursued an escaped kitsune spirit into the living world and are giving chase. Shoma has managed to tie a sacred rope around the animal with Kurosu's help, but the crafty spirit dives into a small space between a mailbox and a miniature shrine where a hidden spirit path is squeezed into the small space. Unfortunately Shoma is not so compact that he can fit into the gap between them and his head becomes lodged between them. Kurosu hears the clock strike 5 pm which means it is time for him to stop working for the day and immediately leaves Shoma stuck between in the small gap. Eventually Isago happens by and notices Shoma stuck upsidedown in the gap, unable to pull himself free. Shoma is too proud to admit he is stuck however and Isago leaves him be only to find him still stuck in the same spot the next day. Soon Rinne and Sakura arrive and find Shoma stuck, though once again Shoma argues rather than humble himself enough to allow them to help him. Finally Isago is able to convince him to pay Rinne to get him free. Rinne ties a rope to Shoma's legs and tries to yank him free, and when that does not work they pour lotion on his head hoping he'll pop out but to no avail. Finally Kurosu returns, though Rinne and Rokumon are not happy to see him, knowing that he will have to free Shoma for free. Kurosu knocks Rinne away easily and sets out to try and yank Shoma free with little success, while Rinne realizes that rather than try to pull Shoma out he should simply find where the fox spirit came out of the spirit path since Shoma is still tied to the fleeing fox. Shoma pops out the other end still holding onto the fox's rope and successfully completes his capture of the animal. However when Rinne comes to collect his payment Shoma seems less enthusiastic to see him.

Chapter 365: 気になってました
Ki ni nattemashita

(On My Mind)
An unfamiliar girl from another school arrives at the gates of Sankai High one afternoon and happens to ask Sakura if there are any red-headed boys that attend school here. Sakura immediately tells her that "Rokudo" fits that description and the girl. Sakura asks if she should call him over but instead the girl asks if she could tell her how she might leave a letter for him. A few days later Rinne finds a letter in the weather hutch. The note is unsigned but says the writer would like to meet him Saturday at 3 pm and that they have been thinking about him. In the envelope is a photograph of the girl that Sakura met with a heart drawn on it. Rinne tells Rokumon that he does not recognize the girl and is rather confused about the note. Rinne's classmates tease him about the girl and Sakura starts to wonder if there is something going on between Rinne and this girl. After school Rokumon shows Rinne another note he found from the girl, this one saying that she will return the 5,000 yen she owes him which leaves Rinne even more puzzled. Saturday comes and Rika, Miho and Sakura all happen to be spending the afternoon at the park when they spy Rinne coming to meet the girl who wrote him the letter. Rinne seems particularly happy to see her because of the promise of money, but to the girls it looks as if he is having a romantic date. The girl asks Rinne if he recognizes her and Rinne smiles and says "of course" when in truth he has no idea who she is. They listen as the girl confesses to Rinne that he was the first boy who so gently touched her head the way he did. She asks Rinne if he will touch her head like he did that day and Rinne reaches out only to see Sakura and the others peeking at him. Rinne sees Sakura's cold stare at immediately apologizes to the girl, admitting that she must have him confused with someone else. Instead she asks if he is a shinigami which sends a cold chill down Rinne's spine. She explains that three years ago a page of her sheet music blew into a tree and she fell trying to climb up to retrieve it. Rinne watched as her ghost started to leave her body but gently patted her head to press the ghost back into its shell. Three years ago Rinne lived an easy life with money to spare and he generously gave the girl 5,000 yen to replace her piano books and told her simply she could pay him back the next time she saw him. Now the girl mistakenly believes she has troubled Rinne over such a small matter and apologizes asking him to forget about her as she runs away without paying him, leaving Rinne without his money for all his trouble.

Chapter 366: 転がる犬
Korogaru inu

(The Rolling Dog)
Ageha and Oboro are out on a mission to capture a fleeing spirit. Using a huge butterfly net Oboro captures what looks like a huge dust mop and promptly asks Ageha what sort of spirit this fluffy ball is. She explains that it is clearly the ghost of a dog. Four months later Ageha has Oboro digging through her closet in search of a dress. The room is sloppily organized with things strewn everywhere. Oboro finds a box with a sacred seal taped across the lid and suddenly something breaks out. In the living world Ageha breaks into Rinne's classroom, begging for his help. Rinne, Sakura, Rokumon and Tsubasa all visit Ageha's house to see what has her so upset. She explains that she and Oboro had caught the dog spirit months ago but when they went to turn in the captured spirit the office was closed for the holidays. Instead of taking the spirit later she simply boxed it up and forgot about it. Now she has sealed the dog spirit inside of her closet along with Orobo who can be heard shouting to be let out. Finally the dog's spirit has grown so large after being left untended that it breaks down the wall and begins to roll all over Ageha's house. Because its matted, dreadlock-like coat is so mop-like it begins to pick up all the trash that Ageha has left laying around. Ageha actually considers leaving the dog to roam about and clean up her miss as she knows that once it is exorcised it will leave behind all the trash it has picked up in its coat. Finally it rolls over some of Ageha's skull bombs which knocks it out and Rinne carries it off to the Life Count Administration Bureau where they find all of Ageha's smoke-damaged, bomb-blasted clothes in the dog's fur.

Chapter 367: あやめの決意
Ayame no ketsui

(Ayame's Determination)
Ayame finds her misplaced cell phone beneath her bed and as she flicks through the photos on it she is shocked to find that her disembodied spirit that is manifested from her secret crush on Tsubasa has returned once more and now is taking hidden photographs while Tsubasa sleeps, eats and showers. Meanwhile at Tsubasa's house he has an armload of packages of various foods sent by his parents from their travels abroad as well as a letter from Ayame. He piles everything together and goes inside to begin putting the perishable food into the refrigerator and forgets to open the envelope from Ayame as he gets busy cooking his dinner. Elsewhere Rinne and Rokumon are busy folding paper flowers when Ayame's disembodied spirit arrives. Unable to speak she gives Rinne 10,000 yen and indicates that she would like him to cut the spiritual chains that bind her. Rinne is only too happy to help and is about to slice the chain with his scythe when Sakura and Tsubasa arrive carrying some of the fish his parents sent to him. Ayame's spirit reacts with shock and a barrier around Tsubasa sends her fleeing. Rokumon realizes that the spirit also took her 10,000 payment before fleeing, leaving Rinne to feel that once again money has slipped right through his fingers. Tsubasa realizes something must be amiss with Ayame and remembers that he forgot to open the letter she sent some days ago. Riffling through his mail he is unable to find the letter now when Ayame's spirit looms behind him and wraps him in a strangling embrace. Sakura, Rinne and Rokumon arrive to check on Tsubasa after his sudden departure and come carrying the box of fish he left earlier. The spirit immediately flees at the sight of the box of fish and Rinne explains that Ayame's letter to Tsubasa was stuck to the bottom of it. In her letter Ayame explains that she still cannot control her roaming spirit with it being compared to the legend of honnari, women who have embraced their jealousy so strongly that they become serpentlike creatures. Tsubasa decides to try and find Ayame to ask her about this directly, however when he calls her he realizes her disembodied spirit has Ayame's cell phone. It quickly becomes clear that Ayame's spirit has locked her living incarnation away somewhere.

Chapter 368: 鎖を切って
Kusari wo kitte

(Cut the Chain)
Rinne soon realizes that despite Ayame's disembodied spirit refusing to tell them where she has hidden her living body that earlier she had wanted him to cut the chain that connects the two of them. Rinne sprays the invisible spirit chain and then follows it back to its source where they find the genuine article. Tsubasa also tries to follow the chain and instead finds a pack of rampaging ghost dogs. Ayame explains to Rinne and Sakura that this is part of her training- she had hoped to learn to get her spirit under control by practicing with the rampaging dogs but they simply dragged her around instead. Ayame tries to treat her spirit like it is a dog and commands that it go home, but instead the spirt tosses Ayame's cell phone away and makes the girl go and fetch it and bring it back. It soon becomes clear that in this scenario Ayame is the dog and her spirit is the master. Ayame then notices the chain that binds her spirit to her and asks Rinne to cut it. Rinne slices it in two and Ayame reties the chains, severely limiting the distance that her free spirit can roam. It seems like a good idea at first until the spirit flies off and stretches more and more of the chain from the knot that Ayame tied to keep it near. Feeling defeated, Ayame heads home and is shocked to find Tsubasa in her room with the ghost dogs that carried him away earlier. Ayame is thrilled to have Tsubasa alone in her room and as soon as her runaway spirit realizes where he is she promptly flies back into Ayame's body where she belongs. When Tsubasa relates the story to Sakura she tells him she's surprised that the spirit could come so close to him with the amulet Ayame gave him, but he admits he had forgotten it and left it at home.
