Ranma 1/2 began at the close of Takahashi's two previous mega-hit anime series, Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku. Taking over their old timeslot proved challenging but eventually the series more than found its footing.

TV Series

Ranma 1/2 spawned three television series, one that shared its name and the second, longer running continuation which was dubbed Ranma 1/2 Nettohen. Thrity-two years later, the show was relaunched again. Here you can read summaries of each series.

In the 1980s and 1990s the Japanese animation industry was robust enough to support "OVAs" (Original Video Animation), high-quality, direct-to-video specials, some of Ranma 1/2's most well-loved stories were adapted for these specials.
