 The bamboo sword used in kendo. The shinai is made of four split pieces of bamboo (or a synthetic material than can substitute for bamboo). Shinai are used as practice weapons that are designed not to hurt (too severely) one's opponent.

Akane often uses weilds a shinai against Ranma when she gets fed up with his antics.
