The Complete Rumic Anime Grand Poll - Characters

NHK conducted a program, The Complete Rumic Anime Grand Poll (全るーみっくアニメ大投票/Zen Rumikku Anime Daitohyo) with a survey allowing viewers to choose their favorites from a database of 52 anime works based on Rumiko Takahashi's works, approximately 1,100 characters, approximately 700 TV series episodes, and approximately 130 songs. Below are the results of the most popular characters. The voting took place between September 17 and November 4, 2019 with a total of 210,061 individual ballots cast.

- [1] The way the polling was conducted allowed Yuta and Mana from the Mermaid Saga series to be counted separately for each of the two OVAs as well as the television series resulting in these two characters appearing five times on the list. They are the only characters (outside of the transformable forms of Ranma 1/2 characters) to appear repeatedly on the list.
- [2] A minor anime-only character this obscure appearing on the list may seem surprising, but Foxy Croquette Ogin (ケツネコロッケのお銀) is an original character created by Mamoru Oshii who appears in a number of his anime series and live action films including Tachigui: The Amazing Lives of the Fast Food Grifters (立喰師列伝/Tachiguishi-Retsuden), the radio drama While Waiting for the Red Spectacles (紅い眼鏡を待ちつつ/Akai Megane o Machi Tsutsu), The Red Spectacles (紅い眼鏡/Akai Megane), Onna Tachiguishi-Retsuden (女立喰師列伝), Kerberos Panzer Cop (犬狼伝説/Kenrou Densetsu) and the manga Kerberos and Tachiguishi: Young Lady's Abdomen Biological Clock (ケルベロスＸ立喰師 腹腹時計の少女/Keruberosu Ekusu Tachiguishi Harahara-dokei no Shojo). In both live action and anime appearances Ogin has been portrayed by voice actress Mako Hyodo (兵頭まこ). Many of the other Fast Food Grifters appear in Mobile Police Patlabor (機動警察パトレイバー/Kido Keisatsu Patoreibaa) related media as well.
Dylan Acres is a psychology professor at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Harley Acres is an art history professor at Pikes Peak State College. The brothers founded Rumic World in 1996.
