Q. There is no sign of Mendo-kun in the Urusei Yatsura story so far, but will he appear as he did in the original story? Is he going to appear on TV?

Oshii: There seem to be a lot of people besides Kuwano-san who are concerned about Mendo-kun, but rest assured, he will appear. Don't worry, Mendo-kun will make an appearance, but not immediately, he'll show up around the beginning of the second school year. The date is currently scheduled for January 27 of next year. Please look forward to it. The appearance of the characters may differ slightly in nuance, but they will appear almost exactly as in the original story.

We are using the episode numbering as referred to in the original article rather than the numbering system that is commonly used today (which is what is used on our website). What they refer to as episode 9 is commonly now called episode 5-1.
