Urusei Yatsura All-Stars Cast Comments

Translation by: Harley Acres

The following collects the comments from the original series leads Toshio Furukawa and Fumi Hirano as well as the casting announcements and actor comments about their new roles.

Toshio Furukawa
(Ataru Moroboshi from Urusei Yatsura 1981 adaptation)
Toshio Furukawa Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you?

I think Urusei Yatsura is an anime that expanded the range of my roles, from the handsome-hero characters in giant robot anime, to a laughing-stock like Ataru. I believe that performances in pivotal works will have an important meaning for me as I continue to work as an active actor for the rest of my life.

Q2: What advice would you give to Hiroshi Kamiya, who now plays Ataru Moroboshi?

My own theory is that there are as many acting theories as there are professional voice actors. In this case, acting theory refers to "role creation = acting plan," but it is interesting to note that each of us is different, and it is natural for us to be different, and I look forward to seeing Kamiya-san's unique approach. Before that, I am sure that everyone will agree that Mr. Kamiya has already established his own acting craft so well that he does not need advice or encouragement from others.

Fumi Hirano
(Lum from Urusei Yatsura 1981 adaptation)
Fumi Hirano Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to Ms. Hirano?

The anime Urusei Yatsura was my debut as a voice actor. And Lum-chan is an ideal female figure for me as well as her fans. Even though 40 years have passed since the broadcast of Urusei Yatsura it remains an irreplaceable work.

When I think about it now, despite it being my debut work, it was the highest-class staff with veteran co-stars who generously showed off their advanced skills as voice actors. They were all able to record without stress or anxiety. I am deeply grateful that I was introduced to my work in such circumstances.

Back then, the staff at the workplace started to say, "I wish I knew then what I know now." I am very honored and proud of the work I did. Perhaps Toshio Furukawa, who plays the role of Darling, has the same experience that I did.

I am also so proud that the original author, Rumiko Takahashi, continues to produce hits and continues to play an active role on the front lines of the manga industry.

Q2: And what would you say to the new Lum, Sumire Uesaka?

Sumire-san, welcome to the beautiful Rumic World of our beloved Rumiko Takahashi!

The new Lum-chan of the Reiwa era was born in the year of the tiger! What else can I do but hope for the best! By all means, take good care of your earthly Darling, your father and mother, and have a great success! I'm looking forward to it too!

Hiroshi Kamiya
(Ataru Moroboshi from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Hiroshi Kamiya Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Mr. Kamiya?

There is no doubt that Urusei Yatsura and Rumiko Takahashi's works in general have had a great influence on forming my foundation. So for me, Urusei Yatsura is a part of me.

Q2: Please tell us about the charm of Ataru, what you want to emphasize and what you are looking forward to playing this role?

I think there aren't many characters in the world who are physically and mentally sloppy, like Ataru, even if they are charred by Lum's electric shock, they will return to their original state in the next frame of animation. I love the irresponsible Ataru played by Toshio Furukawa. With that in mind and all the skills I have cultivated as a voice actor, I hope to create a new hit!iger! What else can I do but hope for the best! By all means, take good care of your earthly Darling, your father and mother, and have a great success! I'm looking forward to it too!

Sumire Uesaka
(Lum from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Sumire Uesaka Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to Ms. Uesaka?

It's a masterpiece that has existed since before I was born, but I feel that it's a work with tremendous power, that it is cute, interesting, and sometimes emotionally painful to watch now.

When I was in high school, watching an anime on a satellite broadcast, I collected the original Lum-chan figures, and I fell in love with the world of Urusei Yatsura! In everyone's childhood, Urusei Yatsura has always shone brilliantly.

Q2: Please tell us about the charm of Lum, what you want to emphasize and what you are looking forward to playing this role?

From my very first impression, Lum-chan was very attractive because of the coexistence of cute sexyness that was far from the orindary world alongside her dedication to Darling.

She's a really, really amazing character, so there's a lot of pressure and tension to play her, but I hope I can enjoy the innocent look of Lum-chan, who dances carefree in the sky!

Maaya Uchida
(Shinobu Miyake from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Maaya Uchida Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Ms. Uchida?

Rumiko Takahashi's cute and precious female characters such as Lum-chan have kept me spellbound since I was a kid. I want to be cute like this! It is something I've yearned for my whole life.

Q2: Please tell us about the charm of Shinobu, what you want to emphasize and what you are looking forward to playing this role?

I think that there is an image of Shinobu in everyone's head, so I would like to create a new image of Shinobu while still being aware of her previous portrayal.

And Shinobu is actually a rare ordinary human character among the other main characters (laughs). I am wondering if it would be appropriate for her to express her emotions to the fullest taking into consideration the emotional temperature with the people around her, so I hope to enjoy playing her as she is being pushed around.

Mamoru Miyano
(Shutaro Mendo from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Mamoru Miyano Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Mr. Miyano?

I remember watching it as a child during summer vacations and other times of the year. I consider it a legendary work and a brilliant work in the history of animation. I never thought I would be involved in it.

Q2: Please tell us about the charm of Mendo, what you want to emphasize and what you are looking forward to playing this role?

I have been watching this work since I was a child, and the character of Mendo, played by Akira Kamiya, is imprinted in my mind. I have seen the work again and found that Mendo is an exquisite character that combines intelligence, silliness, elegance, and vulgarity (laughs). I am playing the role while feeling the charm of the character. While respecting Akira Kamiya's portrayal of Mendo, I feel that I must arrive at my own version of the character.

Wataru Takagi
(Cherry from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Wataru Takagi Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Mr. Takagi?

There are many characters with two-faced personalities, such as a phony-type who looks handsome, a cute but superhumanly strong girl, or a beautiful but gluttonous woman, and I'm really attracted to these characters. I thought it was going to be a slapstick comedy, but there are some serious stories in it as well, so it is like an entertainment "Kintaro-ame" that can be enjoyed in many ways (laughs).

(Translation Note: ("Kintaro-ame" is candy that when sliced has the face of the folk hero Kintaro, basically saying the series is multi-layered/has depth).

Q2: Please tell us about the charm of Cherry, what you want to emphasize and what you are looking forward to playing this role?

He is a plague who appears when you least expect him and he'll make everything worse like a god of death, but I feel a little sad when he doesn't appear in a story, and I can't hate him. It is impossible to imitate Ichiro Nagai's exquisite sense of timing and the way he created a very charming character, but I hope to enjoy myself and stir things up so that I add spice to the story.

Miyuki Sawashiro
(Sakura from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Miyuki Sawashiro Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Ms. Sawashiro?

I rewatched [the original anime] again to be able to prepare [for the new version], and the sheer energy of Mr. Toshio and other senior members (and the cuteness of Lum-chan, who gently exists in the midst of it all with an other dimensional cuteness) had me falling on my ass. I love it...!

Q2: Please tell us about the charm of Sakura, what you want to emphasize and what you are looking forward to playing this role?

I personally feel that she has a mysterious charm that is elusive. I hope we can get to know each other a little better.

Kana Hanazawa
(Ran from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Kana Hanazawa Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Ms. Hanazawa?

The first time I encountered Urusei Yatsura was when I was a child. I heard "Lum's Love Song" somewhere and was so shocked by it, I wanted to be able to singalong with this cute song! I still love that song and always sing it when I go to karaoke.

Q2: Please tell us about the charm of Ran, what you want to emphasize and what you are looking forward to playing this role?

Ran-chan has a dual personality, one is an extreme flirt and the other is an extreme meltdown, so I think that's what makes her so interesting to watch. She has her own reasons for both her pretentiousness and her anger, so I hope I can play the role with strength while staying close to her true feelings.

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

I was in the Inuyasha generation, and during a little gloomy time before going to cram school in the evenings I was cheered up by watching Inuyasha while eating rice. My favorite is Miroku!!! I wanted him to play an active role in battles but if he used the Wind Tunnel it would shorten his life! I always worried about that. But he was really sexy!

Later, when I was cast in Kyokai no RINNE as a crocodile spirit called "Chibi", I was so moved to be involved in a work by Rumiko Takahashi.

I'm thrilled this time as well, I'll do my best!!!

Q4: Can you give a message to fans that are looking forward to Urusei Yatsura?

I was even more excited to see what the revival of Urusei Yatsura was going to look like after seeing the cute promotional video! Please support Ran-chan, who always fails in her various schemes!

Katsuyuki Konishi
(Rei from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Katsuyuki Konishi Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you?

The first anime I saw in the theater was Urusei Yatsura. After all these years, I never thought I would be able to participate in Urusei Yatsura. At the time of writing this comment, I haven't participated in the recording yet, but now I'm wondering "When will I be able to record?" I am excited every day.

Q2: Please tell us about the charm of Rei, what do you find appealing about him?

Rei is extremely handsome, gluttonous and loves Lum. He doesn't speak often, so I'm looking forward to seeing how I can play him. He is also a transformable character, so I am looking forward to seeing that too. I would like to enter the world of Urusei Yatsura, which has been revived in this 2022 series.

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

I like the works of Rumiko Takahashi, and I used to watch the anime of her works. My generation is most familiar with Urusei Yatsura and Ranma 1/2. I think I bought a lot of CDs of Ranma in particular.

Q4: Can you give a message to fans that are looking forward to Urusei Yatsura?

Bu-moooooo!

Saori Hayami
(Oyuki from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Saori Hayami Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Ms. Hayami?

I have known the name of Urusei Yatsura since I was a child, and somehow I knew about Lum-chan and Ataru-san... It is a work that has existed in my mind for so long that I don't know when I first encountered it.

Q2: Please tell us about the charm of Oyuki, what you want to emphasize and what you are looking forward to playing this role?

I think she is cool and beautiful, and has a nice look to her. I hope to enjoy recording the role while picking up Oyuki's subtle facial expressions in the conversation.

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

I remember watching Inuyasha as a child and looking forward to every broadcast of the anime.

I also remember reading the original story of Maison Ikkoku as an adult and being fascinated by it. The pace of the conversation is very good, you can feel the passage of time, and it's a little sad and sweet...it's wonderful.

Q4: Can you give a message to fans that are looking forward to Urusei Yatsura?

I am honored to be able to participate in the Reiwa era's Urusei Yatsura.

I am enjoying the dialogue so far as I have been recording it.

Please enjoy the broadcast!

Shizuka Ishigami
(Benten from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Shizuka Ishigami Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Ms. Ishigami?

It's been a masterpiece since before I was even alive. Everyone knows who Lum-chan is, even decades later they all still love her... I think that's really great! Of course, I love it as a work drawn by Rumiko-sensei that will never fade away. There are so many other characters beside Lum-chan that have their own, unique personalities.

Q2: What is the appeal of Benten and what do you look forward to with this role?

Benten-sama has a winning and manly personality, but she also understands her own attractiveness as a woman, so I hope I can find a good balance between the two in my performance.

As Lum-chan's childhood friend, I am looking forward to interacting with many different characters!

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

I loved Inuyasha as a child and watched it every week without fail as I was growing up!

My first time being cast in one of Rumiko-sensei's works was in Kyokai no RINNE as Renge Shima. I was so happy when I got that role that it is still a vivid memory. And I am really, really honored to be able to participate in Rumic World again!

Q4: Can you give a message to fans that are looking forward to Urusei Yatsura?

As a fan, I am very happy to see Urusei Yatsura in the Reiwa era, but I also feel a lot of pressure. I am sure that there are people who have known "Urusei Yatsura" for a long time and there are also people who are watching Urusei Yatsura for the first time, so I will do my best to make it a work loved by everyone.

Nana Mizuki
(Kurama from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Nana Mizuki Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you?

Urusei Yatsura is a work that has been by my side for as long as I can remember!

The unique and fascinating characters, with the gap between their appearance and personalities, grabbed my heart, and the unforgettable opening and ending theme songs and the animation of the television series, once I experienced that, I was instantly drawn into the world of the series.

On a very personal note, I once dressed up as Lum-chan for a radio project...

Q2: What attracts you to Princess Kurama, and what do you value and look forward to about playing this role?

Princess Kurama is my favorite character because of her straightforward and extreme behavior, which is both dynamic and cute, and because she is so serious.

I hope everyone will enjoy my performance as much as the energetic characters, as I gave it my all in an all out, headlong battle!

Q3: What are your memories of Urusei Yatsura and other "Rumic World" works by Rumiko Takahashi?

The first Rumic World series that I saw was Ranma 1/2. It was quite exciting for me as I was in the early grades of elementary school at the time, and I excitedly looked forward to the anime every week.

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the broadcast.

I never thought I would be involved in Urusei Yatsura... I'm so thrilled! I can feel the team's respect and love for the series in everything they do, and I'm so happy to be a part of it. I hope everyone is looking forward to the show!

Kenta Miyake
(Onsen-Mark from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Kenta Miyake Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Mr. Miyake?

I think it was probably the first school romantic comedy that I was exposed to in my life. It was also in Urusei Yatsura that I first learned the term "wordly desires" in my life. So, Urusei Yatsura is a work that showed me many "firsts" as a young boy.

Q2: What is the attracts you to Onsen-Mark and what do you look forward to with this role?

Onsen Mark is an overbearing authority figure for Ataru and his friends, but I want to play him as a villain who is sure to make a fool of himself. In addition, I hope I can add a little bit of lovable charm.

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

The OVA version of Fire Tripper left a great impression on me. It was a pure love story that was different from Urusei Yatsura, and as an elementary school student at the time, I couldn't help but be moved by it.

Q4: Can you give a message to fans that are looking forward to Urusei Yatsura?

The second coming of Urusei Yatsura with full of expectation. There is no greater joy than this. Please enjoy the TV animation Urusei Yatsura and forget about the cramped floating world.

Takahiro Sakurai
(Tsubame from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Takahiro Sakurai Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Mr. Sakurai?

When I was in elementary school, the anime started and I looked forward to it every week. It was an epoch-making work in many ways, and I think one of its elements was the music. There aren't many places in the world where you can say with such bravado, "Let's put weird and weird together, and make it even weirder!"

I wanted to go to Tomobiki High School when I was a teenager.

Q2: What attracts you to Tsubame Ozuno, and what do you value and look forward to about playing this role?

I have the impression that he is a cheerful and calm character, far from the image of an exorcist, who is always involved with Ataru and his friends to the detriment of others. He is a bit of a screw-up, which is his charm and what makes him unique. I don't think it needs to be overly done or exaggerated, so I hope I can deliever the pleasure of the lines well.

Q3: What are your memories of Urusei Yatsura and other "Rumic World" works by Rumiko Takahashi?

I have fond memories of Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku. Urusei Yatsura gave me new sensations and influenced my personality development to some extent. Maison Ikkoku is a TV drama for me. I felt an inexpressible sex appeal in Kyoko-san. Both works definitely had a nourishing effect on the timing of my growth and are strongly etched in my mind.

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the broadcast.

I am very happy to be able to participate. I feel very honored. I hope everyone will watch it. Please give me your best wishes.

Marina Inoue
(Ryoko Mendo from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Marina Inoue Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Ms. Inoue?

It is a work that has existed as a matter of course ever since I can remember. Even though I had never seen it, I understood the appeal of the world famous character Lum-chan, and I was thrilled by her sexy proportions.

Q2: What is the attracts you to Ryoko Mendo and what do you look forward to with this role?

Ryoko is the most bizarre girl of all.

Everything she does is crazy, and the fact that she enjoys it to the fullest is both terrifying and amusing. I would like to do my best to disturb her so that I can convey the spiciness of her role.

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

Kyokai no RINNE is a very important work for me. Sakura-chan, the character I played, was quite different from the other Rumic heroines of the past. She was a cool and unaffected character whose emotions did not change easily. Because of that, there were not many "Rumic gag" scenes, which made me a little sad and envious, so in Urusei Yatsura I would like to participate in the gags as much as I can.

Q4: Can you give a message to fans that are looking forward to Urusei Yatsura?

It is like a dream come true for me to come back to Rumic World again.

I have been playing the role of Ryoko while devouring the fun that I can only get from Rumic's works every time I get to perform in them. Ryoko-san is a bit of a maverick, which surprises me even when I play her, so I hope you enjoy the role!

Toshio Furukawa
(Ataru's Father from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Toshio Furukawa Q1: Tell us about your appearance in the Reiwa version of "Urusei Yatsura".

It was a long time ago when I heard that a new Reiwa version of Urusei Yatsura and that it would be produced with a different cast. I had been offered the role of Ataru's father, and heard that Hiroshi Kamiya was going to play Ataru. At that time, I remember saying to, "Well, it's good that the role of Ataru will be taken over by someone from the same agency.

So, I suggested that we have a seat at the table for Mr. Kamiya as a way to celebrate. I had experienced a great deal of bashing when I've taken on a role that was originated by someone else, so I thought I should be the first to express full support for him. However, I was not able to do so until now because of the way the cast annoucements have been managed. I proposed the idea of having a seat at the table as part of this desire to show my support. So I hope that fans will give their enthusiastic support to Hiroshi Kamiya, Sumire Uesaka, and the other voice actors who will be playing the second generation.

As for the role of the father, it is not easy to be active throughout one's life and continue to work on a regular basis without interruption, so I was simply happy to hear that I was being cast. When I saw Mr. Kamiya leaving the studio with a smile on his face after the recording, I felt relieved like a parent and was deeply moved that the show was finally about to begin.

Keiko Toda
(Ataru's Mother from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Keiko Toda Q1: Tell us about your appearance in the Reiwa version of "Urusei Yatsura".

I am very honored to be invited to work on a work with such a nostalgic following.

Also, Mr. Toshio Furukawa, who I haven't seen in a long time, plays Ataru's father, so it's one of my great pleasures to work with him and get to play a married couple.

This time, I was able to meet Fumi Hirano after such a long time. She's playing Lum-chan's mother. Everyone's voice is still the same as it always has been, and I feel that they are truly legends. I hope everyone will enjoy the show.

Rikiya Koyama
(Lum's Father from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Rikiya Koyama Q1: Tell us about your appearance in the Reiwa version of "Urusei Yatsura".

We've got the nice guys, the smart guys, the fresh guys, and the legendary guys all here and having a great time!

I'm still a young man, Rumiko-sensei!

I guess good things will always be good things!

Fumi Hirano
(Lum's Mother from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Fumi Hirano Q1: Tell us about your appearance in the Reiwa version of "Urusei Yatsura".

It's not just the launch of the new Reiwa version of Urusei Yatsura that surprised me, but I never thought that I would be asked to play a role in the new series as well! It was a double surprise, and I was filled with gratitude! My first recording was a scene with Glico (Keiko Toda), whom I hadn't seen in a while and she gave a very relaxed performance.

However, Lum-chan's Mama actually speaks in her own language (!?) whenever she's on Earth! I was in a cold sweat inside because of the difficult lines. Due to the time of the year, we were unable to have a parent-daughter collaboration in the recording, but from what I saw of the artwork, I can say that the parents and daughter are indeed a match made in heaven! I am looking forward to seeing the finished product as a fan.

Aoi Yuki
(Ten from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Aoi Yuki Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Ms. Yuki?

My mother loves Urusei Yatsura. Therefore, the story that has been handed down from mother to child is no longer a legend. It was created before I was born and is still loved by many people, and I believe it is a living legend in Japan.

Q2: What attracts you to Ten, and what do look forward to in playing this role?

Ten can be a bratty kid, but suddenly he becomes dependable, and even though his knowledge is that of a child, he has a concrete interest in a variety of things... He has so many different expressions, and is quite charming. The first direction I was given during post-recording was to be loud enough to make people cry, so I'm trying not to be pulled in by his appearance and gestures and make him too cute... (laugh) I want to play him in a cute and boisterous way.

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

I used to look forward to watching the Inuyasha TV anime every week when I was a child. It was so popular at school, so I would play pretend with my friends. My favorite was Shippo! He was small and fluffy and a bit cheeky, but he was so lonely.... He's so darn cute now that I think back on it!

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the upcoming broadcast.

Since I received the news that I passed the audition for Ten-chan, I have been really, really happy to be able to participate in the legend of Urusei Yatsura that still lives on to this day. I will do my best to play Ten-chan in a cute and bustling manner so that both the fans of Urusei Yatsura and those who will be watching the show can enjoy.

Ayahi Takagaki
(Ryunosuke Fujinami from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Ayahi Takagaki Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Ms. Takagaki?

For me, it is a work that I have been familiar with since childhood and was was something I was following as my admiration for the world of anime and voice acting was starting to build. Ranma 1/2 introduced me to the works of Rumiko Takahashi, and from there, before I knew it, Urusei Yatsura became my favorite as well! When I was a child, I was taken to a video rental shop once a week to rent anime and read manga, and I especially loved Ten-chan. I also loved the theme songs, and often played and sang the opening and ending albums at home! I went to photo booth where I could take pictures with Lum-chan, and I loved Urusei Yatsura goods like pouches and bags when I was a student, and I still use some of them today!

Q2: What attracts you to Ryunosuke, and what do look forward to in playing this role?

She was raised like a man as the heir to the Hama Tea Shop, so Ryunosuke often battles with her father and is quick to fight and a strong martial artist, but she also has a naive, earnest, and pure side. She is cooler than anyone else! I will give my all to the work with respect for Ryunosuke, whom I used to watch growing up and am very familiar with!

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

Ranma 1/2 in particular has greatly influenced my aspirations to become a voice actor. When I learned about the character song genre, I was so impressed by its charm that I listened to all the albums... I used to sing the song "Lambada Ranma" imitating all the characters (laugh). I also liked Inuyasha and actually sent a fan letter to Ms. Takahashi when I was in junior high school... I wrote in the letter, "I want to be a voice actor and appear in one of your works someday." After I sent it, I felt embarrassed and had never told anyone about it, but... I never thought it would come true like this! And with Urusei Yatsura! I really never thought it would come true in my wildest dreams.

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the upcoming broadcast.

The cast has been announced and the show is about to go on the air... I still can't believe that it's a dream come true for me. The episode featuring Mr. Fujinami and his son is quite a mess, so I hope you will watch it with a sense of humor! Please look forward to Ryunosuke's future adventures...! I hope that as many people as possible will enjoy Urusei Yatsura in 2023!

Shigeru Chiba
(Mr. Fujinami from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Shigeru Chiba Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Mr. Chiba?

For me it was a place where actors from various backgrounds worked together in a battlefield-like setting, and it was a very valuable work that allowed me to make new discoveries and intuitive acting experiments every time.

Q2: What attracts you to Mr. Fujinami, and what do look forward to in playing this role?

If I accept Ryunosuke as a "girl," I have to accept that one day she will become someone else's wife and leave me. As a father, I must not allow that to happen, I absolutely must prevent it! That is why I am raising Ryunosuke as a "boy" and properly educating him! With these thoughts in mind, I'm really enjoying playing the role of Ryunosuke's father.

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

Every time I am surprised by the story developments that incorporates elements such as gags, suspense, violence, romance, etc. in a fantastic world view. As an actor, I feel very lucky to have been involved in so many wild and unique characters in Takahashi-sensei's Rumic World.

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the upcoming broadcast.

Now, it's time to get started! We hope you will enjoy Urusei Yatsura with both a nostalgic and new feeling!

Yuki Kaiji
(Tobimaro Mizunokoji from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Yuki Kaiji Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Mr. Kaiji?

"Lum-chan," "Dacha," and "Lum's Love Song." I think it is one of the masterpieces that are now embedded in Japanese people... or even people all over the world, at a genetic level. "Love stories with aliens". It is the royal road and the best introduction to that concept!

Q2: What attracts you to Tobimaro, and what do look forward to in playing this role?

I am most keenly aware of his unusual obsession with Shutaro Mendo aka "Shu-chan," which is his reason for living and the source of his energy. He is frighteningly straightforward about it! And always running around! (Laughs). I feel that this role is filled with the basics of comedy. I really enjoyed my back-and-forth with Miyano-san, who plays Mendo.

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

I watched Ranma 1/2 as long as I can remember, as long as I've been breathing, Inuyasha which I followed in real time as it came out, and MAO in which I got to play the main character Mao, which was my wish. "Rumic World" has always been present in my life. I am very happy to be able to be involved in Urusei Yatsura this time.

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the upcoming broadcast.

It's a masterpiece that is loved beyond its time. I would be happy if more people come to enjoy Urusei Yatsura through this series. The original is a wonderful work, so all that we actors can do is try to faithfully reproduce it, and to perform with respect for the 1981 version. Please look forward to the appearance of Tobimaro Mizunokoji!

Misaki Kuno
(Sugar from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Misaki Kuno Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Kuno-san?

The first time I watched an anime was at a friend's house that had CS, and I was in elementary school back then! I still vividly remember watching it because Lum-chan was so cute. Some of my friends used to sing "Lum no Love Song" at school!

Q2: What attracts you to Sugar, and what do look forward to in playing this role?

It was my first time to play a so-called "sukeban," so I was really happy to be entrusted with this role...! At first glance, she may look like a delinquent, but I tried to keep Sugar's cuteness in mind. Even when she is misbehaving, I try to play her with a charm that makes you giggle.

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

Generationally speaking, I watched the Inuyasha anime on-air every week in real time when I was in elementary school! All my classmates watched it and it was very popular. I have memories of the theme song "I am" being played at lunch time by request, and everyone singing along.

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the upcoming broadcast.

I was surprised and really, really happy that I got to be a part of such a great work with such a long history! I was especially sweaty and happy during the postrecording of episode 20, and I had so much fun that I couldn't help but blurt out a few words during the recording sessions. The three sukeban are going to be scratching around with Lum-chan and the others in a lively way, so please enjoy the show!

Chitose Morinaga
(Sugar from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Chitose Morinaga Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Morinaga-san?

I am such a fan of Rumiko Takahashi's works that I have covered almost all of her series, including Urusei Yatsura, so it is no exaggeration to say that it is a part of my life. I love her works so much that I still read them over and over again. I have listened to "Lum no Love Song" so many times that I don't know how many times I have heard it. I am still so excited that the day will come when I can participate in Urusei Yatsura. I especially love Ten-chan, and I used to put sticky notes on the cute scenes of Ten-chan in the original work and watch my favorite scenes over and over again (laughs).

Q2: What attracts you to Ginger, and what do look forward to in playing this role?

Ginger is just so energetic! She is so lively! Together with Sugar and Pepper, they try to surpass Lum-chan and the others in many ways.... I want to learn from their spirit! I was so energetic and full of energy that I was out of breath during the recording. I hope you will enjoy the crazy, crazy way they stir things up around them with all their might! Also, please pay attention to how perfectly the three "sukeban" fit together!

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

My beginning was Inuyasha. I am still in love with Sesshomaru-sama. From the anime, I went on to the original work, and then I started reading the past works including Urusei Yatsura... and before I knew it, I was immersed in "Rumic World". Especially, I will never forget the shock when I saw Mermaid Forest for the first time...!

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the upcoming broadcast.

Whether you know Urusei Yatsura or are new to it, this is an anime you will enjoy the most. Watch! Read it! Please enter the world of Urusei Yatsura! Please take care of the three sukeban!

Rie Takahashi
(Pepper from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Rie Takahashi Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Takahashi-san?

I have a very strong impression of Lum-chan. I think she has an overwhelming degree of perfection as a character... I felt that Lum-chan is a character on a cosmic scale, with visuals that make you want to have a product of her, and a presence that is loved by all generations, Showa, Heisei, 2025, and so on.

Q2: What attracts you to Pepper, and what do look forward to in playing this role?

She is called "Pepper, the poisonous snake," and I feel that she is characterized by her sharp, snake-like eyes and her sly, slippery movements. However, I feel that her charm is enhanced by working together with Sugar and Ginger, so I hope you will like the threesome! I felt a synergistic effect when I played the role, as if the strength of each of their habits was being added on top of each other.

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

I am still a beginner of Rumic World. I watched the anime of Inuyasha when I was little, and my friends who liked Ranma 1/2 showed me their goods. My direct memories of the World will start from this work, which I will be involved in!

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the upcoming broadcast.

The three Planetery Junior High School sukeban, who are aiming to "beat their seniors," will win the tournament...! Please watch them!

MAO
(Asuka Mizunokoji from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
MAO Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you,MAO-san?

I was so familiar with each the series that I didn't remember when I first discovered it, before I knew it, I was introduced to and loving Urusei Yatsura. Regarding the anime, I was excited not only by the visuals of the characters, but also by the cute songs and sound effects. Anyway, I have fond memories of Lum-chan and all of the girls that appear in the series being unique and really admiring them.

Q2: What attracts you to Asuka, and what do look forward to in playing this role?

I found the chasm between Asuka-chan being a pretty maiden yet with amazing physical abilities, to be appealing. I think her distinctive eyes, hairstyle, and sharp expression are really cute. She is the ultimate sheltered girl and there are things about her that cannot be measured using common sense, but she is a pure and innocent girl, so I tried to play her so that the words she said resonated truthfully. Her gestures and onomatopoeia while in her armor are also very cute, so I'm looking forward to seeing how she will be expressed in this anime!

Q3: Please tell us your memories of Urusei Yatsura and Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

My parents had all of the Maison Ikkoku manga, and I used to read them often. I think the characters drawn by Rumiko Takahashi are all really attractive, but Kyoko Otonashi is my favorite heroine. When I was little, I excitedly watched the TV anime Inuyasha every week, and when the movie was released, I asked my girlfriend's mother to take me there. Kirara-chan was my favorite at the time, and I dreamed of becoming fluffy like that one day. Among her recent works, I love reading MAO. Ever since the serialization started, I felt a unilateral affinity for the title that shared a name with me (laughs).

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the upcoming broadcast.

I was really happy to be able to play the charming character of Asuka Mizunokoji in Reiwa's Urusei Yatsura! I would like you to pay attention to how Asuka-chan, who is afraid of men, toys with the gentleman with her many screams and incredible strength. Nice to meet you all!!

Toshiharu Sakurai
(Mr. Mizunokoji from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Toshiharu Sakurai Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Sakurai-san?

I think the original manga was written when I was in junior high school. It's a work that I fell in love with after reading it in Shonen Sunday. I watched the anime when I was in high school, and I found it interesting and watched it often.

Q2: What attracts you to Mr. Mizunokoji, and what do look forward to in playing this role?

While his wife, Asuka, and his son all have strong personalities, he is a father who has a sullen face, but I tried to play him in a cool way, without showing too much individuality. I wanted him to be like the air.

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

I have always loved Takahashi-sensei's works, and it was Maison Ikkoku that allowed me to participate in anime. I would have liked to have appeared in more of her other works.

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the upcoming broadcast.

I would be happy if people who view the work could empathize with the way I felt about this father that I played.

Mitsuishi Kotono
(Mrs. Mizunokoji from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Mitsuishi Kotono Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Kotono-san?

This is a pioneer work in the field of gag anime. I was astonished when I watched the TV because of the discrepancies between the boys' and girls' views on love and the dialogue that doesn't hide their true feelings (laughs). And with its high tension, speed, and sex, it's an anime you can't take your eyes off.

Q2: What attracts you to Mrs. Mizunokoji, and what do look forward to in playing this role?

She is the wife of a good family, but as you can see, her facial expression rarely changes. I went around and around trying to find a way to express the fun and discomfort of this in the performance, but in the end, I had to play it by ear in the studio (laughs).

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

Until now, I had no connection to Rumiko Takahashi's work, so finally! It’s finally here! That's the joy of it. I love comedy, so I'd love to play more in "Rumic World."

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the upcoming broadcast.

The members of the Mizunokoji family are all good people at heart...but the girls are forced to grow up in a peculiar way due to family traditions. Please keep a watchful eye on Asuka and Ton-chan.

Nobunaga Shimazaki
(Shingo from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Toshiharu Sakurai Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Sakurai-san?

Urusei Yatsura is a work that has been loved for all time, that continues to move people's hearts, that continues to influence people and works everywhere, directly and indirectly, and that continues to spread. I believe it is a work that continues to sparkle and live on even at this very moment. I am honored to be involved in this project.

Q2: What attracts you to Shingo, and what do look forward to in playing this role?

He has an uncommonly high sense of conviction, he is very straightforward, though not unpleasant pushiness, and he's honest, naive, yet surprisingly adaptable, though he never wavers. I felt that he was a character from the world of Rumiko Takahashi's works. I enjoyed playing the role very much.

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

When I reread Maison Ikkoku' as an adult, I was drawn in even more by the human nature of the manager in many ways, including her immaturity (I mean that in a good sense) and her troublesomeness, which I hadn't noticed before. At the time, I thought Godai was no good, but I was able to really feel the kindess in Godai's core, and I was impressed that this is a work that truly moves people's hearts regardless of era or age.

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the upcoming broadcast.

Recording was so much fun! I believe that everyone will enjoy it too. Thank you very much!

Motoko Kumai
(Kokeru from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Mitsuishi Kotono Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Kumai-san?

Uesaka-san, who plays Lum-chan, was talking with a staff member about the first pitch she threw at Koshien, and perhaps because of my sudden and enthusiastic reaction as a Hanshin fan, she gave me some goods from that event... Uesaka-san was very mature despite my behavior. My apologies...

Q2: What attracts you to Kokeru, and what do look forward to in playing this role?

Kamiya-san, who played the role of Ataru-kun, gave me his approval, saying that I was good because I looked like an idiot (laughs). I thought I played it cute (laughs).

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

I was invited for a guest role for the anime Inuyasha. I thought it was going to be a demon, but it turned out to be a fantastic character with cute designs. I love the world view drawn by Rumiko Takahashi-sensei.

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the upcoming broadcast.

I was happy to be invited to participate in this series that has been loved for so long. I am confident that the result will not disappoint the expectations of past fans! I'm also looking forward to seeing it on air.

Manaka Iwami
(Nozomi from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Toshiharu Sakurai Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Iwami-san?

I feel that it is a terrific work that has been loved for a long time since before I was born, and that everyone has probably seen it at least once.

Q2: What attracts you to Nozomi, and what did you look forward to in playing this role?

I felt that Nozomi is a very pure, straightforward, and supportive girl. I played the role of Nozomi while carefully feeling her pounding heart and her wishes. It's a wonderful story, and I am looking forward to seeing it.

Q3: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the broadcast.

It was a great honor for me to be involved in this series that has been loved by so many people and getting to play a wonderful girl named Nozomi. It is a fantastic story that will warm and touch your heart deeply when you watch it. I hope it will touch many people!

Ayumu Murase
(Nagisa Shiowatari from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Ayumu Murase Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Murase-san?

Although it was designed a long time ago, I feel that Lum-chan's charm, which has always reigned as the image of a cute and strong heroine is amazing! I think Lum's Love Song is also masterpieces that transcend generations.

Q2: What attracts you to Nagisa, and what do look forward to in playing this role?

Although he is a counterpart to Ryunosuke, I was able to give him a strong sense of being an unconventional character who just keeps pushing forward, even though he has a girly side. Nagisa suddenly appears in the second half, and I hope he leaves a lasting impression on everyone.

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

Inuyasha, both the manga and anime, is a work that I became obsessed with when I was a student, and my friends and I would talk passionately about it, "Did you see Inuyasha last night?!" The beauty of Takahashi-sensei's drawings is one thing, but I feel that the charm of Rumic World is that it captivates both children and adults, it's truly amazing!

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the upcoming broadcast.

I am very happy and honored to have this opportunity! I feel that by interacting with Nagisa, we'll be able to see a new side of Ryunosuke and find her even more attractive. Please look forward to the broadcast!

Koichi Sakaguchi
(Mr. Shiowatari from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Koichi Sakaguchi Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Sakaguchi-san?

She's been with me since I was a child. When I saw Lum-chan, I was moved by how wonderful she is!
Since then, she has become my dream!
The other day, while on my way to work, I couldn't help but take a photo at the Lum-chan statue at Oizumi Gakuen Station!!!

Q2: What attracts you to Mr. Shiowatari, and what did you look forward to in playing this role?

His love for his daughter, er, son! Either way is fine! Plus I really enjoy the interactions I get to have with Shigeru Chiba who is playing Ryunosuke's father!

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

Oh it has to be Lum-chan's costume from Urusei Yatsura! It was too stimulating for little kids! It's the best!

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the broadcast.

I myself am just a small part of this, but the director, staff, and my fellow co-stars are all doing their best to bring you Takahashi-sensei's work! Please look forward to it!

Miyu Irino
(Inaba from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Miyu Irino Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Irino-san?

A legendary work that was broadcast before I was born! I am honored to be able to be involved in this work in this era.

Q2: What attracts you to Inaba, and what do look forward to in playing this role?

He's natural, straightforward, and charming. He's a cute guy that you can't leave alone even though you think, "Hey, hey, hey, that's not right...". His interactions with Shinobu-san are a must-see.

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

I'm definitely from the Inuyasha generation. Of course, I also bought the books, and I miss the days when I used to mow down (imaginary) enemies with Tessaiga (my umbrella).

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the upcoming broadcast.

It's sure to make you excited. Please enjoy!

Yuichi Nakamura
(Rupa from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Koichi Sakaguchi Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Yuichi Nakamura-san?

I'm from the Ranma 1/2 generation when it comes to Takahashi-sensei's works, but I've also been exposed to Maison Ikkoku and this work going back from those days.
Each series has a unique vibe and tension that remains common throughout, and I think that's what makes it so appealing and addictive to all generations. Among them, I felt that Urusei Yatsura was the origin, or the base, of her works.

Q2: What attracts you to Rupa, what did you keep in mind as you played him and what did you look forward to in playing this role?

One of the features of the story is that it uses a dialect, so the task of creating an interesting character while maintaining that dialect was both difficult and fun. It was really fun to play a violent character in this work that is full of "Takahashi's style". I was really impressed and I'm glad I've seen so many different works of hers!

Q3: Please tell us your memories of Rumiko Takahashi's "Rumic World" including Urusei Yatsura.

I loved Ranma and watched it a lot.
When I was little I didn't really like the heroine Akane, but when I read the original manga again as an adult I discovered the charm of Akane that I hadn't noticed back then.
I felt it was a work with depth that would have different impressions depending on the age and environment in which you watch it.

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the broadcast.

Urusei Yatsura is finally reaching its climax.
We hope you enjoy the funny characters that appear in the series, and we hope you'll be excited to see what kind of drama unfolds for Ataru and Lum! Don't miss it!

Inori Minase
(Karula from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Miyu Irino Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Minase-san?

I remember my mother's younger brother was a big fan of Lum-chan and had a poster hanging in our house.
I was a child at the time and was a little embarrassed by the amount of bare skin on Lum-chan, but I would glance at her every time I went home.

Q2: What attracts you to Karula, what did you keep in mind as you played him and what did you look forward to in playing this role?

Her cute appearance and her bold and lively dialect were very difficult to understand.
At the same time, I felt it was fun and rewarding to see her powerful ability to completely change the atmosphere of a scene and be at the center of the storm that draws the main characters in.

Q3: Please tell us your memories of Rumiko Takahashi's "Rumic World" including Urusei Yatsura.

I like Inuyasha. I really love him. He's my first love character.
I used to imagine the day I would tell Kagome that I like Inuyasha too and have a contest, and practice with my toy bow and arrow.
Of course, that day never came, and even if it did, I wouldn't be able to win!

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the upcoming broadcast.

It was a great honor for me to play Karula. The story is about two different love stories, Lum and Ataru, and Rupa and Karula, that intersect through an unexpected turn of events. I think this story will make the characters want to express the honest feelings that they normally find difficult to express.
Please open your arms and receive Karula's cry of love (roar)!!

Cho
(Upa from Urusei Yatsura 2022 adaptation)
Cho Q1: What does Urusei Yatsura mean to you, Cho-san?

(When I was a student) I loved Lum-chan because she was so naughty.

Q2:What attracts you to Upa, what did you keep in mind as you played him and what did you look forward to in playing this role?

I love the nastiness of his 'gehegehegehe' laughter, but it was surprisingly difficult to breathe.

Q3: Other than Urusei Yatsura what memories do you have of Rumiko Takahashi's other works from Rumic World?

I was so grateful for the role of Jaken in the Inuyasha anime!!
It's one of my favorite roles!!

Q4: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the broadcast.

What do you think of the new cast of Urusei Yatsura in the Reiwa era?
I'd be happy if you could enjoy it even a little.
