Abi
Abi, the bird princess, is complicated, powerful, and strong. She realizes Naraku is using her for his own purposes, but only too late does she attempt to do something about it. Abi is extremely cunning, and will side with anyone as long as it serves her purpose. Once she no longer sees any need in an ally, Abi will quickly turn on them.
Naraku seeks Princess Abi out and makes her an offer that seems too good to be true. He gives her a halberd made from his own bones in order to expedite her mission to save her mother's life. Abi's mother Tekkei, a giant phoenix, had eaten a demon that was poisonous to her, and needs human blood to cleanse the venom from her system. Abi uses her small demonic birds to terrify the countryside sucking blood from innocent humans and bringing it back to her mother. Abi and her mother, being something akin to demonic royalty find Naraku to be beneath them, as he is only a lowly half demon, while they are full-blooded. Although she is wary of Naraku, Abi wishes to help her mother recover as quickly as possible.
Naraku's halberd protects Abi from Inuyasha's Wind Scar, and allows her to safely gather human blood for her mother without fear of the dog demon's interference. It does not take Abi long to realize she is being used, and she tries to rebel against Naraku by attacking the village where the Infant is in hiding. By this time Abi's mother has recovered and together they foolishly attack Naraku. He effortlessly murders them both and uses Abi's mother's blood as a portal to the underworld.
The Meaning Behind the Name - 阿毘
Abi's name is made up of two kanji. The first has the meaning for "nook" or "recess" and the second for "help". Possibly meaning she is helping her mother, who is hidden away in her cave recovering from her poisoning.
