Characters

Kyokotsu

Kyokotsu is a giant of a man, but calling this creature a "man" may not be the most accurate description. As a member of the Band of Seven, Kyokotsu ravaged the countryside, obliterated villages, and murdered women and children until the group were executed at the hands of a regent's army. Ten years passed until finally the seven men were resurrected by Naraku through the use of Shikon shards.

As rumors of seven spirits begin to spread across Northwestern Japan Kyokotsu is the first member of the Band of Seven to reveal himself. Unwilling to wait on his comrades to join him, Kyokotsu greedily moves North in search of Shikon shards, massacring the entire northern Wolf Demon tribe. This leads to a confrontation with Koga who wants revenge for his fallen compatriots. Kyokotsu is only too happy to battle the wolf-demon in order to gain his two Shikon shards.

Even though Kyokotsu has no knowledge of Naraku's master plan he shows no signs of allegiance to anyone other than himself and his seven brothers. Kohaku travels with the colossus but is unjustly attacked due to Kyokotsu's desire for the boy's jewel fragment. In life Kyokotsu had a penchant for cannibalism and after his resurrection his appetite extends to demons as well. Even though Kyokotsu appears to be the most physically imposing member of the Band of Seven, his headstrong nature leads to a quick end, with his brothers remarking that he is in fact the weakest of their group.

The Meaning Behind the Name - 凶骨

"Kyo" is written with the character meaning "villain", "evil", or "disaster". The "kotsu" character is "skeleton" or "remains". Each of the Band of Seven have the latter character in their names, which relates to the fact that they are actually the living dead.
