Riku
Initially Riku presents himself as a pirate washed-ashore from his ship. He takes on a playful nature with the Half-Demon Princesses, particularly bonding with Towa. For an allegedly human pirate he has strong mystical powers that seem unfitting for someone of his alleged identity.
Eventually it is revealed that Riku is an aspect of the great demon Kirinmaru. Seemingly he was cast off from the demon in much the same way Naraku created Kagura and Kanna from his own body. Riku has a dislike of Kirinmaru but a deep devotion to Kirinmaru's sister, Zero. It is on her behalf that is tries to retrieve the Rainbow Pearls, the embodiment of her demonic powers that were wished away on the Shikon Jewel.
Unbeknownst to Towa, Setsuna and Moroha Riku is the mysterious benefactor that acts through Jyubei in order to slay certain demons as a method of obtaining the Rainbow Pearls.
The Meaning Behind the Name - 理玖
"Riku" is a proper name. It is written with the kanji for "logic" (理) and "beautiful black jewel" (玖).
