Setsuna
Setsuna is Towa's twin sister. Born to Rin and Sesshomaru their father separated them from their mother at infancy and decided they would be raised via a trial of courage and cowardice. The two girls were eventually left in the forest alone to fend for themselves, though Jaken remained a remote presence in their lives as did their father who dispassionately watched them from a distance. Sesshomaru did not intervene when Zero bid the fire demon Homura to burn the forest down. It was during this inferno that Towa slipped through time and was separated from his sister for a decade.
Setsuna was soon located by Jaken and taken to the hidden village of half-demons where she was raised by Shiori. Life within the protective barrier was tranquil and regular parcels were left for Setsuna by either Sesshomaru or Jaken with terse instructions to train. Setsuna briefly tried to live with Kaede but found the experience difficult due to being told not to murder the maurauding bandits that would attack the village when she was used to showing the demons that attacked Shiori's home no remorse. Eventually Setsuna's demonic powers threatened to overwhelm her and her abilities were sealed by Miroku to her naginata, Kanemitsu no Tomoe, a spear she took from the demon Gaga Gozen.
Unbeknownest to Setsuna, the Dream Butterfly was attached to her in order to keep her mother, Rin, in a perpetual slumber so that the curse Zero placed upon her would be slow to advance. Because of the Dream Butterfly Setsuna was unable to sleep for much of her life. She showed little interest in this, though after reuniting with her sister, Towa, they began to search for a way to undo the butterfly's hold over Setsuna. After becoming too old to remain in Shiori's village Setsuna became a demon slayer under the tutelage of Kohaku and worked alongside Hisui, though she did not realize the monk who sealed her powers was his Hisui's father. During Setsuna's brief time in the present-day era she learned to play the violin and has continued to enjoy the instrument now that she has returned to the past.
The Meaning Behind the Name - せつな
Setsuna's name (like Moroha and Towa) is written with hiragana and not kanji so it is difficult to find a particular meaning or suggestion in the way it is written. "Setsuna" is a fairly common Japanese girl's name.
