Hiten & Manten

The two Thunder Brothers, Hiten and Manten are fierce, psychotic murderers. The two are responsible not only for the destruction of an entire army, but for the death of Shippo's father as well. Now Manten wears his pelt as a sash. The elder brother, Hiten may be the more handsome of the two, but he is also the most dangerous. The two brothers fly through the air, Manten riding on a cloud, and Hiten using a pair of floating wheels, as they strike down their enemies with powerful bolts of lightning.

Inuyasha and Kagome first encounter the brothers when they discover that they harbor a large cache of Shikon jewel shards, the largest amount the pair had yet to find this early in their quest. The brothers are about to murder little Shippo who is has just failed in an attempt to regain his father's pelt. Kagome manages to save Shippo from Manten, but in the process she lodges an arrow through his snout and cuts two precious hairs from his nearly-bald head. This infuriates Manten and he captures her, planning to use Kagome's flesh to make a hair tonic. When Hiten learns that Shippo managed to escape with the Shikon shards, the brothers go after him and meet up with Inuyasha.

Kagome tricks the brothers into taking her to Inuyasha in order to trade for their lost Shikon shards, but Kagome and Shippo double team Manten and burn away his last hair, making him uncontrollable with anger. In his anger, he does not notice as Inuyasha throws Tessaiga into his chest, killing him. Hiten becomes infuriated at the death of his brother and eats his heart, adding Manten's power to his own. Inuyasha is only able to overcome the demon when he believes Hiten has killed Kagome and Shippo.

Although the Thunder Brothers are very different from one another, their bond is obvious. Hiten is the more intelligent and powerful, while Manten is more slow-witted and deferential to his calculating sibling. Hiten is genuinely upset when his brother dies, showing that while he may be hard on Manten, he cared for him deeply.
