Gamera is a giant flying turtle creature from the series Daikaiju Eiga monster films. Created in 1965 by Daiei Motion Picture Company he was considered a rival to Toho Studio's Godzilla. Gamera was reawakened by an atomic blast in the arctic, he begins attacking Japan. His origin was later revised making him a guardian of Earth created in the lost city of Alantis to battle against Gyaos, a flying bat creature who is determined to destroy mankind.

Relevance to Inuyasha

In episodes 137-141 Inuyasha battles Genbu, a giant turtle demon who uses Gamera's familiar spinning shell attack.
