The Inuyasha Narrative, Part 17: The Powerful Spirit Protecting Inuyasha

I Wanted Inuyasha’s Father to be an Extremely Powerful Demon
As we all know, Inuyasha is a half-demon, his mother being human. When it came to his father, I wanted him to be an extremely powerful demon, so I made him the Lord of the Western Lands. I did show him in his beast form once, but never in his human form. They took care of the human form for me in one of the movies (
Inuyasha the Movie 3: Swords of an Honorable Ruler), though, and I’m grateful for that. The movie not only featured Inuyasha’s father, but his mother as well. A two-for-one deal!
Inuyasha’s father was the Lord of the Western Lands, but he fought Ryukotsusei, so he probably traveled to the Musashi Province before his death. This might not be the most tactful way to put it, but they were like a couple of Yakuza boss’s fighting for power. Like, “I heard there was a tough guy in these parts, so I came to put him in his place!” Or something. That said, his father was unexpectedly protective of humans. Ryukotsusei, on the other hand, just destroyed everything in his path. Inuyasha’s father wasn’t just a demon who was physically strong. He was kindhearted as well.
He Had a Soft Spot for Inuyasha?
When it comes to what Inuyasha’s mother and father relationship was like, I wonder about that myself. They had Inuyasha, so obviously there were romantic feelings there, but I’m not the type to dwell much on the details I don’t write about, so I have no idea. I didn’t think going back farther into the timeline and doing entire story arcs there fit the story of Inuyasha as a whole, so I never touched on their relationship.
Inuyasha inherited Tessaiga from his father, which I think showed the soft spot he had for his son. He probably decided to leave a large inheritance to Inuyasha, knowing he was a half-demon and therefore weaker than his brother Sesshomaru. You can’t help but feel kind of sorry for how Sesshomaru was treated. I’m glad I was later able to write about what Sesshomaru’s sword really was.
And finally, Myoga. He was a kind of storyteller. He was able to serve under Inuyasha’s father because he was knowledgeable about many things. This knowledge helped Inuyasha and the gang on many occasions. He fulfilled a very important role in the story.
