The Inuyasha Narrative, Part 23: The Motives Surrounding Naraku’s Heart
Translation provided by: Robby Stine of Kanabits

Inuyasha Wideban Extra Vol 23 He left his heart in an untrustworthy safe deposit box?

After the Band of Seven story, I introduced the idea of Naraku transferring his heart to a place outside of his body. Or rather, I introduced it to let readers know what he was doing while he was holed up at Mount Hakurei during Inuyasha and company’s battle with the Band of Seven. By removing his heart, Naraku became invincible. It’s like leaving something valuable in a safe deposit box. Or like storing your bank book and personal seal in two different places. It’s just a shame he left his heart in such untrustworthy hands.

Hakudoshi wanted to replace Naraku

The Infant Naraku was birthed on Mount Hakurei, and compared to his other aspects, is strikingly similar to its creator. But then look at Hakudoshi, who I’m sure wanted nothing more than to be free. In that respect, he was just like Kagura. Kagura was only interested in her freedom, though, whereas Hakudoshi most likely wanted to take out Naraku and stand in his place. Naraku understood this and ended up offing him, though he had Inuyasha and the gang do his dirty work for him.

A Showdown Between Naraku and His Aspects

On the subject of Moryomaru and the infant that didn’t turn into Hakudoshi…Moryomaru was too really too complicated to describe in one word, but I guess you could say he was a bodyguard. His job was to protect the infant. Then, as he got stronger, he wanted to overtake Naraku and ended up facing off against him. Hakudoshi and the Infant were once one in the same, so I thought they’d also think the same. To put it simply, it turned into an Original Naraku vs. New Naraku showdown.

Naraku Understands Himself

But of course, Naraku understood what was happening. He knew himself, so he knew what they would think and do in any given situation. So, he was able to read their moves and deal with them appropriately. That in itself is kind of sad, though.
