Rokumon is a young black cat contracted to work for Tamako. The black cat's have a symbiotic relationship with the shinigami, and assist them in their duties of casting souls into the underworld and placing them on the path to reincarnation.
Tamako, feeling sorry for the burden she has placed on Rinne, decides to pass Rokumon on to him in order expedite the heavy burder of reaping ten times the ordinary amount of souls he needs in order to pay off her debts. At least that's what Rokumon tells Rinne. As it turns out Tamako fired him, and she suggests that he try to sign on with Rinne. Initially Rinne refuses, saying he does not have the money to feed Rokumon, but the little cat's persistance eventually wins out.
Rokumon is able to change from a small black kitten into a kitten boy, and into a larger and scarier demonic cat form. He is extremely loyal to Rinne and is well versed in the rules of the afterlife, often purchasing items to help Rinne in a time of need.
The Meaning Behind the Name - 六文
Rokumon is written with the kanji for "six mon", "mon" being an old form of currency. This is a reference to the amount of money (six mon) needed to cross the Sanzu no Kawa, the Japanese version of the River Styx.
