Kamon is a former compatriot of Mao who studied at the same onmyodo school. Frequently known as a ladies man, Kamon was in town wooing a girl on the day Byoki attacked, returning in time to find massive devastation and death. It was Hyakka who filled him in (erroneously) on what happened and explained that Mao betrayed everyone and stole Byoki's power for himself. Like Hyakka, Kamon was invited to the Five-Sided Room meeting and was tasked with Mao's assassination 900 years ago.
In the centuries that passed Kamon took on the alias of "Kuchinawa" and continued to move in the upper echelons of society. He is not above using his powers to influence the minds of the wealthy to allow himself access to their privilege and largess. When Mao encounters him again centuries after their last meeting Kamon is using his Kuchinawa alias as he serves as a butler for the serial killer Tanehiko. In this role Kamon has been forced to dispose of the bodies of Tanehiko's victims, but when he finds the man trying to murder Tenko, a yokai girl, he intervenes and rips Tanehiko's heart out.
Kamon is skilled in the manipulation of wood and is able to control various trees and roots and use them to attack his foes. After meeting Mao he begins to work to with another ally, Beniko who serves as his assistant much like Otoya does with Mao. Kamon is particularly interested in Shiranui due to the belief that the onmyoji had attacked him at sea some years ago in a failed assassination attempt. He eventually learns that Shiranui has kept the deceased corpse of his lover, Masago, as a tool to use her still lingering powers against his enemies.
The Meaning Behind the Name - 華紋
Kamon is written with two kanji (華紋). The first meaning "flashiness" and the second, being a word that means "family crest". Kamon frequently uses the alias "Kuchinawa" during the 1920s which is written as (朽縄). The first character can alternatively be interpreted as "decay or rot" but also "to remain inseclusion". The second character means "rope".
