Mikkyo
Mythology & Folklore
A sect of Japanese Buddhist (though this is some debate about whether it can still be classified as Buddhist), Mikkyo translates as "secret teachings". Mikkyo tried to incorporate elements of Hinduism into Buddhism before its expulsion from India. As it traveled eastward magical elements, curses were also added to the philosophy. It has been called an esoteric form of Buddhism and comparisons are made between Mikkyo and Buddhism in the same way that Kabbalah is connected with Judaism.
Relevance to MAO
Sogen mentions that he was a Mikkyo practioner before leaving to found his own cult with his daughter.
