Yoshoku
Food

for further reading: Pogogi.com

Yoshoku (洋食) translates as "western food" (as apposed to "washoku" (和食) which is Japanese food), these dishes filtered into Japan during the Meiji Restoration (1868-1912). Despite the label many of the items would be somewhat unfamiliar to westerners as the Japanese have adapted the dishes to be more in keepin with Japanese tastes. Popular dishes include Omuraisu (Omelette rice) which is an omelette topped with ketchup with rice, peas and mushrooms tucked inside. Careraisu (Curry rice) had a roundabout way of arriving in Japan. Curry of course originates in India which was part of the British Empire in the late 1800s, consequently it arrived in Japan via England. Hamburger steak and neopolitan spaghetti are also popular yoshoku dishes. Fried dishes such as pork cutlet are also a central part of yoshoku.

Relevance to MAO

In chapter 70 Mao asks Nanoka if she likes yoshoku and takes her to a restaurant. Mao states he has been curious to try the cuisine and Nanoka realizes Mao has little reason to go to restaurants since Otoya does not eat food.
