Rumiko Takahashi discusses her favorite novelist, Yasutaka Tsutsui. In this manga she discusses her favorite work and shares that she discovered him through his short story Vietnam Tourist Bureau (ベトナム観光公社/Betonamu Kanko Kosha) mentioning it was turned into a manga by Shotaro Ishinomori.

Takahashi further explains that her comedy style is largely based on the work of Tsutsui. She makes simple illustrations for some of his works included My Blood is the Blood of Another (俺の血は他人の血/Ore no Chi wa Tanin no Chi) and Cholera (コレラ).

  • Takahashi names a number of her favorite Yasutaka Tsutsui novels but ultimately states that Yakusai Chinese Restaurant (薬菜飯店/Yakusai Hanten) is her favorite.
  • In the West, Yasutaka Tsutsui is likely best known as the author of Paprika (パプリカ) which was adapted into an anime film by Satoshi Kon. His other famous book is The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (時をかける少女/Toki o Kakeru Shojo).
