Lum Take responsibility, Lum-chan!

When I was offered the opportunity to draw Lum-chan for this project, I was extremely honored, but at the same time, I was worried that I had been given a job that would be difficult to focus on (laugh). As a result, I did my best to draw a moe image without blurring the lines. I tried my best to make it a challenge, but the result is as shown here. I leave it to the reader to decide, so here you go.

The first time I encountered Urusei Yatsura was at a bookstore I stopped by on my way home from an ear, nose and throat doctor's appointment. I thought it must be interesting (with no deep meaning), so I bought it. It took some courage for me, a timid person, to buy this manga with a beautiful woman in a bikini on the cover. I remember that I bought it every time a new issue came out on the day it was released. I was an adolescent, so to speak. I can say that Lum-chan gave me courage during my adolescence. Thanks to her, I later went on to become able to buy Miyuki by Mitsuru Adachi later without any difficulty. Thanks for giving me courage, Lum-chan.

On the other hand, I also have a little bit of resentment towards her. After I became a manga artist, this work, which is basically a gag manga, became the gold standard of Shonen Sunday. I have suffered a lot as a person who is required to do the same sort of comedy. Of course, there was no way I could compete, so I changed the mountains I climbed and wandered down more and more strange paths, and as a result I ended up in a village of the naked tribe, where we held a weekly shrine festival, which was hated by both Sunday readers and the editorial department, and the village became isolated from the rest of the world. Well, I know this is completely backhanded, but take responsibility, Lum-chan!.

I've read many of Sunday's recent works, and I still think, "I'm a junior high school student, and I love it!" but there are none that I can say, "I love them now too! I loved it in junior high school and I love it now!" I think Urusei Yatsura is the work that I can say I'll love it even in the next life, too!
